Position:

Teacher Assistant

Executive Director

Purpose

The primary purpose of this position is to assist implementing the infant, toddler, or preschool program and the general supervision and management of a group of children.

Essential Job Functions Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assist in planning and implementing the daily program under the direction of the teacher. This includes planning activities for the children.
  2. Assist in preparing and maintaining a safe, loving and nurturing environment.
  3. Help maintain the observational records kept on each child and other required classroom logs.
  4. Be familiar with all health and emergency policies of the program, and be ready to implement them, if necessary.
  5. Help with general housekeeping tasks.
  6. Treat all children with dignity and respect and allow for individual differences. Deal with the children’s individual needs and assist other staff with appropriate techniques.
  7. Maintain a professional attitude at all times, and maintain loyalty to the program.
  8. Attend all staff meetings and recommended training programs and conferences. Provide the director with documentation in accordance with state requirements.
  9. Show initiative in the improvement of early childhood education, the program and curriculum.
  10. supervise and interact with children in all activities.
  11. Support a curriculum that helps each children reach their fullest in all areas, while maintaining an environment that helps each child have a positive experience throughout the day.
  12. Implement program goals.
  13. Report suspected case of child abuse and/or neglect.
  14. Maintain a sense of humor.
  15. Follow positive discipline guidelines for behavior problems.
  16. Use love rituals throughout the day with the children.
  17. Follow Rule 3 policies and procedures.
  18. Supervise the playground according to procedure.
  19. Always know the number of children in your group.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Must possess the ability to make independent decisions, follow instructions, and accept constructive criticism. Must be able to deal tactfully with children, personnel, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public. Must possess the educational requirements of the program’s licensing agency.

The person must have a warm and friendly personality, be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others, be able to relate well to children, and be willing to fulfill the job responsibilities in accordance with the program’s philosophy. Must be able to communicate professionally and openly. Must be able to create a nurturing environment in which the child can grow physically, emotionally, socially, and intellectually.

Education and Experience

Possess the educational requirements of the program’s licensing agency.

Licensing/Certifications

CPR certification within 90 days of employment.
