SCHEDULE:
Wednesday and Thursdays 2-10:30p
No weekend requirement
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Assesses, diagnoses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient’s status to create an individualized holistic plan of care that includes cultural diversity and special needs appropriate to the patient population served.
In conjunction with the provider, applies critical thinking to evaluate, plan, and implement a comprehensive lactation care plan that provides infant nutrition and breast care, and that meets patient/family wishes.
Supports the progression of care by coaching others to follow evidence-based practice as the patient moves across the continuum of pre- and post-hospitalization.
Identifies and coordinates the need and use of any appropriate and approved evidence-based resources to aid in lactation.
Collaborates with multiple disciplines to effectively and efficiently provide patient care and achieve the desired patient outcomes for lactation.
Knows and understand the expertise of disciplines outside of nursing and encourages their involvement in the patient plan of care.
Respectfully addresses situations or decisions to ensure patient’s concerns or needs are met. Demonstrates professional and therapeutic relationship with patients, families, and providers.
Recognizes patient and family education needs with regard to lactation, assesses patient and family readiness to learn, and organizes and executes individualized teaching plans.
Evaluates learning and works collaboratively with the patient, family, and care team to develop strategies to meet the learning needs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A licensed, board certified, health professional (RN, LPN, APRN, physician, etc.) or a bachelor's degree or higher per The Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice
Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) and/or International Board Certified Lactation Counselor (IBCLC)
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of fifty (50) pounds without assistance.
Job classification is exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Climate controlled clinical setting with daily movement throughout the campus.
Interaction with department members and other healthcare providers.
