POSITION SUMMARY:
This role is responsible for planning and leading activities with a group of elementary, middle, and/or high school age children in a specialty area. In some sites, this role may serve as support of grant-funded, outcomes-based program for high school youth to attend and graduate from high school and college. This specialty is responsible for working with the academic and enrichment partners, directly providing enrichment activities (including a college readiness curriculum), plans college tours, builds relationships with students, school staff, and families, plans workshops for families, conducts home visits, and leads small student groups/discussions. At all sites, the programs are located in a public school and are part time positions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Plan, lead and/or assist in activities with groups of children as indicated on the program schedule, including participating in field trips
  • Care for and maintain program space, equipment and property used by the program participants.
  • Maintain health and safety standards within the program
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings as called by the Site Director
  • Maintain a positive relationship with students, parents, and other staff members
  • Develop positive relationship with school leadership while maintaining focus on and meeting job expectations
  • Seek, develop and maintain relationships with partners that grow and sustain the program
  • Assist with and facilitate high school/college attainment program for high school students located in public school building (Depends upon grant program)
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
  • High School Diploma or GED Required. Must be at least 18 years of age.
EXPERIENCE:
  • 1-2 years’ experience with targeted population preferred, but not required
  • Experience teaching and supervising a specific activity such as sports, science, music, arts, chess, etc.
  • Experience working with target population
SKILLS:
  • Ability to manage group of 15-20 youth
  • Conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to administer outcomes-based youth programming, including planning and implementation of trips and curricula
  • Ability to develop effective partnerships that enhance youth development programming
  • Ability to write and communicate clearly and effectively
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to assist in planning trips and college visits, including an overnight experience yearly required for Next Generation Scholars’ grant only
  • Intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, G-Suite and Social Media required for Next Generation Scholars’ grant only
  • Capacity to develop effective working relationships with people from a variety of different ethnic, socioeconomic, educational, religious, sexual, and generational backgrounds

  • Stand in one area for extended periods of time

  • Ascend and descend steps • Frequent travel between program site, the Y and other locations
  • Occasional outdoor activities
  • Occasional overnight travel and weekend work
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS, PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Physically able to successfully complete required job functions, including use of hands, arms, fingers, able to talk and hear, use a computer, sit and stand, regularly move/lift up to 50 pounds, enter all Y environments (office spaces, indoor and outdoor maintenance/mechanical areas, fitness areas, pool and pool space, camping areas, unimproved outdoor locations and other program areas).
  • Physically able to observe, inspect, and identify appropriate documentation from all visitors to the program
  • Physically able to recognize and assess individuals and groups in program space

Accountable for completion of assigned goals as measured by the number of people served, cause driven measures, service satisfaction scores, operating results, and supervisor evaluation of assigned duties An offer of employment is contingent upon receipt of satisfactory results to meet minimum requirements of the position.
