THE WEST OAKLAND HEALTH COUNCIL is Hiring a Licensed Vocational Nurse Near Oakland, CA

Job Details

Job Location: West Oakland Health Center - Oakland, CA
Salary Range: $29.00 - $34.00 Hourly

DEFINITION:

Under the general supervision of the Clinic Manager the LVN provides oversight to the unit huddles and assists in ensuring patient flow. The LVN provides assistance to the Clinic Manager in providing direction and guidance to the performance of duties by nursing staff members; the Unit Clerk and the Medical Assistant. The LVN will also assist providing orientation and training to, and monitors, assesses, and reports on the performance of the staff supervised.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Licensed as a LVN/LPN in the state of California

At least 3 years of recent full time experience performing supervisorial, managerial, clerical, or receptionist and clinical LVN duties in a primary care medicine healthcare setting; experience in a community health clinic preferred.

Basic knowledge of medical terminology and ambulatory care medical procedures.

Ability to retain composure and try to be helpful while responding to and communicating with an ethically diverse and sometimes upset and demanding group of patients.

Excellent attendance required.

Effective interpersonal relations with supervisory and subordinate staff.

As a condition of employment, a physical examination and drug-free status is required.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

To provide leadership to the morning huddles on the medical service units

To assist Clinic Manager with making assignments and providing directions and assistance to staff; monitors and reports on the work performed by staff.

Screen Leave request for adequate coverage prior to forwarding to Clinic Manager.

Renew non-controlled medications

.

Triage walk-in medication renewals.

Assists in the training and orientation of Medical Assistants.

Participate in the completion of performance evaluations for Medical Assistants and Unit Clerks.

Perform audits on huddle binders.

To promote and arrange, when possible, prompt and easy access to care for patients; assures that appointments are made in compliance with department policy and, to the extent possible, consistent with the patients wishes; assures that same day appointments and drop-in visits are made when the units schedule permits.

To promote prompt, courteous, and helpful unit communications, including but not limited to answering of telephone calls and responses to in-person questions and requests for assistance; assures that persons seeking assistance are responded to promptly and in a manner intended to be helpful; assures the timely delivery of written and verbal messages and reports; assures prompt delivery of filing and correspondence.

To assure that unit clinicians have staff assistance as required; provides support assistance as necessary.

To assure that unit clinicians have available as needed clinical and other records, instruments, and supplies required or requested to provide patient care services.

To maintain a current inventory of supplies, including medication, other medical and non-medical supplies that are required to be and that are present in the unit; has supplies replenished as needed to maintain acceptable inventory.

To promote, monitor, and report on patient appointment compliance with Council and non-Council health care practitioners.

Assist in the monitoring and the making of patient appointments with non-unit practitioners or organizations,

To assure that efforts are made to remind patients of their appointments with unit staff at least 1-2 work days in advance of the date of their appointment; efforts to contact patients should be documented in the patients record including any advisement that the contact information is no longer valid.

Assist in responding to patient concerns and complaints about unit services; promotes patient satisfaction and quality service; refers complaints to supervisor when unable to resolve them to the patients satisfaction.

Assist in the the timely submission of encounter forms, time sheets, and other documents required to be submitted to Council and extra-Council parties.

To assure that intra-organization mail and other deliverables, including waste, are delivered timely and in compliance with Council and department policies and procedures.

To collect or assure the timely collection of patient specific data required for patient registration and/or determine eligibility of certain programs which pay for certain services.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

Attends work regularly and punctually; is readily accessible during work hours to peers; limits absences from own duty stations and limits visits and activities which distract others from their performance of duties.

Works cooperatively with immediate supervisor, with department members, and with other Council staff persons, as required

Treats all patients / clients / visitors with respect and courtesy.

Remains competent in skills required for position.

During the initial thirty (30) days of employment, becomes and remains knowledgeable about and in compliance with the Council's and Department policies and procedures in the following areas:

Confidentiality of patient / client / fellow employee and supplier records.

Patient's rights and responsibilities.

Professional and business ethics.

Continuous quality and improvement[LE1].

Safety and security of person[LE2] and property.

Infection control.

Hazardous [LE3]materials and waste.

Life safety and emergency preparedness.

Maintains a working knowledge about and in continued compliance with all of those areas listed under item (5) throughout your employment with the Council.

Provides care appropriate to the age of the patients / clients / visitors served.

Is able to work and/or interact satisfactorily with a workforce and public which is ethnically and culturally diverse.

Is responsible for performing other assigned duties which are related to the above and which fall within the scope of this job description.
