DEPARTMENT: Clinical Services Operations
POSITION: Clinical Services Operations Coordinator
REPORTS TO: Director of Clinical Services Operations
SALARY: $25-$29
SUMMARY: The Clinical Services Operation Coordinator is responsible for the effective and efficient day-to-day operations of the clinical services departments at West Oakland Health. This includes 1) implementing policies and procedures that
ensure the quality and safety of patient care, 2) overseeing the day-to-day operations of West Oakland Health’s clinical departments, 3) supporting the orienting and onboarding of West Oakland Health clinical staff, 4) supporting the
management of clinical department budgets, 5) supporting the improvement of the quality of patient care, and 6) advocating for the needs of patients and West Oakland Health clinical departments. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in the healthcare industry and a passion for providing quality care to the Black community.

Background
Fifty years ago, four African American mothers, aided by 25 volunteer Black physicians, launched West Oakland Health amid the Civil Rights and Black Power movements. It immediately became an anchor for the Black communities in West Oakland, East Oakland, and Berkeley for healthcare, health education, food and housing programs, and voter registration. The clinic became a spark that transformed healthcare advocacy in California and the nation. West Oakland Health’s purpose is to be the trusted hub advancing the Bay Area’s Black community’s health and dignity. We work to do this by providing high-quality, comprehensive
adult and family medicine, pediatric health care, dental care, optometry, podiatry, behavioral health services, and pharmacies at two locations. And through being a space where medical care is our central but not the sole aim. A place where community members will also receive assistance on things that would make our community socially, economically, and physically
healthy. 
The Clinical Services Operations Coordinator plays a critical role in the success of West Oakland Health in realizing this purpose. They are responsible for ensuring that patients receive high-quality care, that staff are well-trained and supported, and that the department operates efficiently and effectively.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Support the Director in providing operational coordination to clinical Chiefs/Directors
* Onboard Medical, Dental, Pharmacy, Behavioral Health, and Patient Care Services department staff, interns, residents, students, and volunteers.
* Coordinate the training needs of Clinical Department staff.
* Coordinate patient care, appointment scheduling, and referral management among the clinical departments.
* Ensure that the clinic runs smoothly by coordinating the Patient Services on the clinic schedule and confirming all appointments with provider and care team member schedules.
* Communicate with Community Health team leaders for expanded and enhanced clinical services.
* Implement and disseminate workflows, processes, and performance improvement initiatives.
* Support Director of Clinical Services Operations around coordinating Clinical team meetings and projects.
* Other projects and tasks as assigned by the Director of Clinical Services Operations.

* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Commitment to providing quality care to the Black community.
* Robust technology and phone skills.
* Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a high-stress and fast-moving environment.
* Demonstrated flexibility and willingness to work on an as-needed basis.
* Ability to travel across Oakland and the San Francisco Bay Area, including offsite visits.
* Valid driver's license or state I.D.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
* A high school diploma or its equivalent is required. Two years of college is preferred.
* Previous experience in a healthcare or clinical operations setting is preferred.
* Familiarity with medical terminology and healthcare processes is an asset.
 

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
* The pace of Work: High stress, very rapid, and demanding
* Concentration: Constant
* Standing and Walking Time Required: At least 20% of the time
* Sitting and typing: 60% - 70%
* Environmental and Health Hazards: Frequent exposure to communicable diseases and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
