This position consists of four components:

After the soccer season, the Afterschool Program Coordinator
The Athletic Director and the Physical Activity Teacher report directly to the Head of School. This position is responsible for developing lesson plans; delivering group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines: preschool through eighth grade; collaborating with other teachers, staff, and administrators in addressing instructional and/or class issues; supervising students within the athletic fields and other assigned areas; and responding to a wide range of inquiries from students’ parents or guardians regarding student progress and the athletic programs, among other related responsibilities.
The Athletic Director and Physical Activity Teacher will seek to model the school’s philosophy of education through instruction and example and provide lessons that meet the school’s requirements as well as students’ interests and capabilities. The Athletic Director and Physical Activity Teacher will take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities, and will keep accurate records.
Report to work by 10:00 a.m., Monday through Friday, and leave between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m., pending staff meetings, parent meetings, afternoon activities, and sporting events
Managing the athletic department and after-school programs
Establishing budget with the help of the business manager
Coordinating games, practices, and event schedules
Hiring and assessing coaches and referees.
Maintain awareness of standards and safety
Attend and help facilitate five Saturday school days throughout the academic year
Create and/or implement the school’s recommended curriculum
Differentiate instruction based on student level
Maintain records of student work, student progress, and attendance
Write and collaborate on progress reports and report cards
Monitor students in a variety of educational settings
Handle social, emotional, and behavioral issues as they arise
Report safety and wellness incidents to maintain students’ personal safety and adhere to state law
Work to be an example of and promote healthy interpersonal relationships with coworkers and students
Prepare/set up equipment prior to the first day of school.
Set up equipment prior to class.
Provide an atmosphere and environment conducive to students’ intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development.
Prepare and implement lesson plans, providing appropriate learning experiences for each preschool through eighth-grade student.
Demonstrate skills being taught; assist students in performing skills.
Teach safety rules related to each activity.
Assess fitness levels; perform fitness testing once a year.
Research, and order physical education and recess equipment.
Plan, organize, and coordinate Winter Fun day; develop activities; set up for activities.
Monitor and evaluate student skill levels and outcomes.
Maintain student records following established procedures and practices.
Hire, manage, and coordinate employees/subcontractors hired for afterschool programs.
After soccer season, create and supervise after-school activities, such as basketball, chess club, circus arts, karate, outdoor club, etc.
Communicate and interact with students, parents, staff, and the community.
May plan and supervise field trips following established procedures.
Update website information related to the athletic program.
Serve on special committees, and fulfill the responsibilities of a committee member.
Attend planning meetings, team meetings, staff meetings, and other
meetings of groups according to membership in those groups.
Monitor the use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.
Attend in-service training and workshops.
Knowledge of emergency plans for the school, such as lockdown procedures.
Participate in fire drills, as required.
May be asked to become involved in community initiatives or
other fitness-related community activities.
Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Elementary School Education or similar, Master’s degree preferred
Proficient knowledge of teaching strategies and methods
At least 5 to 10 years of experience in a school or youth-serving organization
Soccer coaching
Outstanding organizational skills
Proficient computer skills
Valid driver’s license
Availability to work extended hours on occasion
Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with a professional and empathetic approach
Able to work well collaboratively
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Detail-oriented
High-energy and enthusiastic about working in an academic atmosphere
Self-starter
