The Weitz Company is seeking a Marketing Director to be located out of our corporate office in Des Moines, IA. This candidate will lead all Marketing functions throughout the United States. Business travel is required up to 25% for this position.

The Marketing Director develops, manages and executes company-wide communication, marketing and public relations strategies. This role ensures alignment of messaging and content to the strategic plan and leverages market data to identify potential changes to the business strategy. This role leads brand strategy consistency across each of our product lines and local offices to support the awarding of priority pursuits and large scale projects. This role has direct and indirect supervisory responsibilities of marketing support personnel. The Marketing Director reports to the Executive VP of Strategy Execution.

What You’ll Do Every Day:

  • Lead a team of marketing professionals; providing guidance, mentorship, and support to achieve departmental goals and overall company initiatives.
  • Influence key stakeholders and indirect reports within matrix reporting structure
  • Lead companywide process with Business Development and Marketing teams to develop and execute product line and local office marketing plans
  • Collaborate closely with Business Development and Business Unit staff to generate strong RFP strategies and proposals, provide guidance and oversight when necessary
  • Lead, coordinate and uphold marketing plans and brand standards across all company entities
  • Develop and implement video strategy and tools that align with brand standards to support proposals, presentations and marketing collateral
  • Define metrics to track success, measure progress and ensure investment value of marketing plans
  • Act as primary media contact and identify appropriate spokesperson(s); supervise public relations activity; develop and prepare crisis management strategies
  • Collaborate with Human Resources and other departments to develop and implement strategies for effective internal communication initiatives
  • Manage and maintain internal and external relationships (i.e. marketing peers, vendors, media and others)

What We’re Looking For:

  • Education: A college degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications or Business Management is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Experience: A minimum of ten (12) years of marketing and communications experience is required. Involvement in public relations is preferred; previous construction experience helpful, but not required.
  • Skills: A qualified candidate will demonstrate initiative, independent judgment, influence, project management and analytical skills. They should also demonstrate strong negotiation, leadership, business acumen, business relationships, and decision-making abilities. Experience in selection and management of external marketing and communications consultants and vendors is required. 
  • Technology:Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Adobe InDesign, with the ability to learn other specific software. Strong understanding of SEO, web analytics and external marketing measurement tools is preferred.
