The Weitz Company is seeking an Internal Communications Specialist to be located out of our corporate office in Des Moines, IA. This candidate plays a key role in coordinating, drafting and tracking company-wide messaging that facilitates employee engagement and alignment.

The Internal Communications Business Partner is responsible for translating business initiatives and strategies into key messages and engaging content to drive employee engagement, bolster team morale and foster alignment at every level of the Company. The Internal Communications Business Partner typically reports to the Vice President of Human Resources.

What You’ll Do Every Day:

  • Draft, plan and execute annual internal communications calendar informed by company strategy, initiatives and priorities
  • Prepare internal communications including newsletters, presentations, company intranet content and messages on behalf of executive leaders
  • Ensure company communication and content engages employees across all channels
  • Develop subject matter and talking points for all-company meetings; plan, schedule and coordinate technology requirements
  • Coordinate company-wide internal communications campaigns for initiatives such as Employee Appreciation Day, Construction Inclusion Week, Women in Construction Week, Safety Week, Cybersecurity Awareness Month, etc.
  • Stay abreast of company matters to identify and recommend opportunities to inform employees; draft content accordingly
  • Compile and track metrics to measure impact of internal communications efforts

What We’re Looking For:

    • Education:  A bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or related field is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
    • Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of communications experience is required; architecture, construction or engineering field experience is a plus. Knowledge of proper grammar, punctuation and spelling is critical for this role.
    • Technology:  Proficiency in basic computer software programs such as Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Excel, and Outlook. Employee should have experience working with an intranet site and content creation system, with the ability to learn other specific software as needed (i.e. Canva, Adobe Suite, Constant Contact, Sharepoint, video editing tool).
    • Skills: A qualified candidate will demonstrate initiative, independent judgment, interpersonal and business writing skills. They should also exhibit strong verbal and written communication, business acumen, decision-making, editing and proofreading abilities with the flexibility to coordinate multiple projects and deadlines.
