Responsibilities: 

A nonexempt position responsible for operating X-ray/DXA equipment that assists radiologist and/or physicians with diagnosing and/or treating disease and/or injury. 

  • Uses customer service principles and techniques to deal with patients calmly and pleasantly.
  • Prepares patients for radiologic procedures. Protects patient, self, and other staff from radiation hazards by exercising ALARA principles.
  • Takes X-rays/DXA’s following established procedures for patient care and safety, which involves setting up and operating radiographic equipment used in the medical diagnosis and/or treatment of patients and includes implementing infection control procedures for the work area.
  • Selects proper ionizing factors for radiological diagnosis. Adjusts/sets radiographic controls. Positions patients and takes X-rays and performs DXA’s of specific parts of the patient’s body as requested by physicians. Sends X-rays/DXA’s to appropriate medical staff.
  • Maintains required records including patient records, and monthly reports utilizing the OnePacs system to submit to radiologist for formal interpretations and transfer results to current electronic medical record into patient charts. DXA results are electronically sent to reading physicians via a physician portal and given to DXA tech to transfer results to current electronic medical record into patient charts. Performs quantity and quality control checks to assure X-ray/DXA units meet standards required by laws, rules, and departmental policies. Complies with safety standards.
  • Cleans, maintains, and makes minor adjustments to radiographic equipment; determines if equipment repair is need and contacts service engineer and imaging supervisor. 
  • Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned that include checking schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room; assisting patients as needed with walking, undressing and dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.; collecting patient history; performing screenings per provider guidelines; assisting physicians/nurses with various procedures; charting; relaying instructions to patients/families; answering calls, and educating patients on exam and result protocol.
  • Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned that may include sending/receiving patient medical records; obtaining x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.; completing forms/requisitions as needed; verifying patient demographics; managing and updating electronic medical record to ensure that information is complete. Burning and preparing CD’s of exams when necessary.
  • Fulfills environmental responsibilities as assigned that may include setting up equipment according to protocols; cleaning visit/procedure rooms, and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control; cleaning sterilizer according to scheduled maintenance program and keeping appropriate records; ordering, sorting, storing supplies; and restocking exam/procedure rooms.
  • Complies with Occupationa1 Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines; quality control methods as stated by Florida DOH Office of radiation control.
  • Communicates with other team members in clinical and clerical area to provide a successful patient centered practice.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience Requirements: 

  • Certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
  • Current license with the State of Florida in clear/active standing
  • Continuing Education in compliance with ARRT and State of Florida
  • CPR/BLS
  • X-ray experience in the medical environment; experience in performing DXA preferred but we are willing to train. 
  • Knowledge of X-ray/DXA procedures and protocols. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology necessary to perform X-ray/DXA testing including body mechanics and patient movement.
  • Knowledge of radiology equipment including safety hazards common to radiology.
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, procedures, protocols and techniques using CR and DR strongly recommended.
  • Skill in positioning patients properly. 
  • Skill in identifying equipment problems and correcting or notifying supervisor.
  • Skill in following infection control and radiological safety procedures.
  • Skill in practical application of ALARA principle.
  • Ability to lift, assist and position patients for the X-ray/DXA procedure is required.
  • Ability to notice detail in drawings and differences in shapes and shadings. 
  • Ability to apply written instructions and standardized work practices.

Salary is commensurate with experience.
