Job Description: An Assistant Teacher in a Reggio Emilia inspired childcare center plays an important role in supporting the educational philosophy and practices of the center, which is characterized by a child-centered, collaborative, and inquiry-based approach to early childhood education.

Job Summary: As an Assistant Teacher in our center, you will work closely with Lead Teachers and other staff members to create a nurturing and stimulating environment for young children. You will support the principles of the Reggio Emilia approach, emphasizing the child’s natural curiosity, creativity, and active involvement in their own learning. Your role is to provide a safe and engaging space that promotes exploration, experimentation, and discovery for children, while collaborating with the teaching team and families to facilitate holistic child development.

Responsibilities:

1. Support Curriculum Implementation: Assist in planning and implementing age-appropriate, child-led, and project-based activities that align with the Reggio Emilia philosophy. Encourage and facilitate child-initiated projects and explorations. Document children’s experiences and learning through observations, photographs, and other means.

2. Classroom Management: Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting learning environment that reflects the principles of aesthetics and beauty. Assist in setting up provocations, materials, and resources to spark children’s interests and inquiries.

3. Responsibilities: Foster a sense of community within the classroom, emphasizing cooperation and respect among children.

4. Child and Family Engagement: Build Positive relationships with children and their families, promoting open communication and collaboration. Share children’s progress and experiences with parents through regular meetings, conferences, and documentation. Act as a resource for parents regarding the Reggio Emilia philosophy and educational practices.

5. Professional Development: Participate in ongoing professional development and training opportunities related to the Reggio Emilia approach and early childhood education best practices. Collaborate with colleagues to share insights and ideas for improving teaching practices.

6. Health and Safety: Ensure the safety and well-being of all children in the classroom, following safety guidelines and procedures. Monitor and assist with the daily routines, including meals, naps, and outdoor activities.

Qualifications:

· Minimum of an associate degree in early childhood education or a related field (bachelor’s degree preferred)

· Familiarity with and a commitment to the Reggio Emilia philosophy and principles

· Experience working with young children in a childcare or early education setting – minimum of one year.

· Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

· Creativity, adaptability, and a passion for early childhood education.
