Scope of Job
To perform physically demanding, repetitive tasks. Responsible for performing unskilled manual work following established procedures.
Description of Duties
  • Carries, moves and positions materials.
  • Cleans areas when remodeling buildings.
  • Follows instructions from the assigned lead.
  • Communicates with different trades regarding specific tasks.
  • Cleans areas when remodeling buildings and ensures that no material is left behind.
  • Needs to assist with central receiving and surplus on special requests.
  • Ensures all safety procedures are followed.
  • Reads and follows instruction as given on the layout.
  • Moves furniture and equipment.
  • Loads and unloads supplies and equipment.
  • Assists with surplus/warehouse area as needed.
  • Moves, transports, arranges, assembles and disassembles furniture such as chairs, tables, podiums, platforms, scaffolding, tents, portable cans, signage, decorations, etc.
  • Moves furniture, office equipment and a variety of heavy supplies and equipment.
  • May be required to assist with performing groundskeeping duties including but not limited to: operating equipment for mowing, edging, weed removal, tree trimming, and maintaining planters.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Immediate and frequent detailed supervision.

Required Education
Completion of the 6th grade. Able to read and write English.
Preferred Education
High School Diploma or GED.
Licenses/Certifications
As condition of employment this position requires the applicant to be authorized to operate a University-Owned Vehicle for Official University Business. Per University of Texas System Policy 157, applicants will be subject to a motor vehicle record check for their most recent thirty-six (36) month history. Out of State Drivers are required to submit a 36-month history MVR from their prior State of residence(s).

Six (6) months of related experience.
Preferred Experience
One (1) year of related experience.

Use of tools.
Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Exposure to weather and physical stress. May work in cramped surroundings or lift heavy and cumbersome objects.

Prompt and correct completion of assignments. Ability to work at heights. This position will be subject to a pre-employment physical. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
