Job Summary

The Prospect Research Analyst will lead and set a strategic direction for prospect identification, qualification, and research aimed at reaching annual and long-term fundraising goals. The prospect research analyst must demonstrate sound project management skills as well as a high level of professionalism, working both independently and in a team environment to ensure success, while collaborating with senior advancement leaders to develop a high-quality moves management process for all front-line fundraisers.

The prospect research analyst provides leadership and sets strategic direction for prospect identification, qualification, and research to support UT Tyler’s fundraising priorities. As a critical member of the advancement team, the prospect research analyst will be expected to collaborate with all members of University Advancement, as well as key administrative units across the institution.

The prospect research analyst will build a collaborative and centralized prospect management system, while simultaneously providing research, analyses, and robust prospect profiles in support of reaching UT Tyler’s fundraising goals. This includes assisting with the identification of prospective members of the Development Board, President’s/Deans' Advisory Councils, and other formal volunteer committees. This position is critical to overall advancement success through the building of a sustainable and broad-based major, leadership, and principal gift program, as well as corporate and foundation relations pipeline. This includes proactively identifying prospects, developing relationship-based prospect research, coding, and reporting.

Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks

  • Develop tools, and resources to be successful in identifying, reporting on, tracking, segmenting, and analyzing prospects and donors to meet annual and long-term University fundraising objectives.
  • Anticipate and respond appropriately to the needs of development officers by producing prospect profiles.
  • Develop strategic relationships with leadership to address opportunities and to create development officer metrics’ reports.
  • Partner with senior management in the development and implementation of a comprehensive campaign, providing gift range charts, prospect screening tools, and reports for campaign volunteer leadership.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of campaign progress reports.
  • Establish and disseminate guidelines and procedures for campus-wide prospect management and tracking interactions with prospective donors.
  • Establish, maintain, and disseminate guidelines for the moves management system.
  • Participate as a liaison to senior advancement leadership by conducting research, portfolio maintenance, moves management evaluation, and completing analytics projects.
  • Evaluate and maintain a system to assign prospects to gift officer portfolios and monitor related moves management activities.
  • Secure screening contracts and reevaluate prospect rating system.
  • Develop and implement methods for identifying new potential prospects for relevant areas of responsibility for development officers.
  • Design and develop studies and reports using research and screening tools on prospect constituencies.
  • Keep current on research and fundraising trends through regular contact with development and research colleagues at peer institutions as well as vendors.
  • Devise and manage a comprehensive analytics program, including but not limited to predictive modelling, wealth screening, data mining and benchmarking, gift officer productivity metrics, portfolio audit/balancing, pipeline management, and other methodologies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Four (4) years of experience in prospect research or related field.

Preferred Education/Experience

  • Experience with moves management.
  • Experience working in a higher education setting and/or hospital foundation.

  • Must be able to utilize a variety of computer software programs to successfully complete assigned tasks.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, analytical, written, and non-verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to treat confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
  • Ability to determine wealth capacity ratings for prospects/donors.
  • Ability to set priorities and manage several projects simultaneously.
  • Systems experience and database skills.
  • Ability to use donor and subscription databases and on-line search tools, such as Raisers Edge, Wealth Engine, or other data mining products.

Other Information

A remote work schedule may be available for this position in accordance with UT Tyler HOP 4.1.16 Remote Work Arrangements. A UT Tyler Remote Work Agreement is required upon employment. Use of personal computer and other standard office equipment may be required. Individuals that work remotely may be required to work on campus on an infrequent basis.

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.

This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code Section 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
