Job Summary

The Assistant Director of Student Organizations is responsible for the management of registered student organizations. The position provides oversight to the registration process conducted each long semester (fall & spring), event registrations, room reservations, marketing requests, education, and enforcement of university policies, and providing development opportunity for student organization leaders. The Assistant Director supports university policy regarding freedoms of speech, expression and assembly while serving as an advocate for student learning and development. The position serves as a primary administrator for the student engagement platform. Position is required to assist with Department of Student Engagement activities and university-wide events, which requires working nights & weekends.

Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks

  • Manages the registered student organizations program (formation, re-registration, policy enforcement, orientation, programming advisement/consultation).
  • Reviews, approves, and conducts consultations of student organization events and activities.
  • Manages developmental and compliance education and training for students involved in organizations.
  • Oversees communications for student organizations (newsletters, approval of postings, etc.).
  • Implements Student Organization programming including but not limited to Swoopsation (org fair), new student orientation fair, homecoming involvement, student organization President’s council, etc.
  • Conducts assessment of Registered Student Organizations through administrative and student learning outcomes.
  • Performs administrative tasks, assists with strategic planning, departmental assessment, and evaluation of programs.
  • Assists the Director in the management of Student Organization office annual budget(s) and the effective use of department resources.
  • Develops marketing and conducts departmental outreach regarding programs and initiatives.
  • Prepares regular reports detailing Student Organization programs as it relates to student retention and involvement.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.


Required Education/Experience

  • Master’s degree in student affairs or related field.
  • Three (3) years of experience in the coordinating and development of student organization services or the equivalent experience.
  • A combination of education and experience may be accepted.

Preferred Education/Experience

  • Direct experience in the advising and development of student activities and organization programs, along with a strong understanding of student development theory, organizational development, student learning outcomes and assessment.

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
