Salary Range: Up to $45,092 annualized, commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.
Hours: up to 40 hours per week, non-exempt.

Essential Functions


Job Summary
To attend and satisfactorily complete The University of Texas System Police Academy qualifying for commissioning as a peace officer of The University of Texas System.
Core Responsibilities
  1. Attends classes and maintains comprehensive notebooks of subjects covered in classes.
  2. Prepares research papers.
  3. Completes homework assignments.
  4. Participates in the physical training program, firearms training, defensive tactics program, and practical problems.
  5. Participates in classroom discussions and group projects.
  6. Complies with the established rules and regulations governing The University of Texas System Police Academy.
  7. Complies with assignments and instructions given by the Director of Police, The University of Texas System, or by any member of the Academy staff.
  8. Complies with policies of respective component institution police departments relating to his/her status and attendance at the Academy.
  9. Adheres to the rules and regulations promulgated by the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System.
  10. Promotes safe and environmental protection by immediately reporting unsafe situations, spills, and accidents; following University safety plans/procedures/protocols; and participating in appropriate safety training.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • High School graduation or GED.
  • Must reach 21st birthday on or before the date of commissioning.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Be a citizen of the United States of America.
  • Must have never been convicted, pleaded guilty to (nolo contendere), nor have been court-ordered community service/probation or deferred adjudication for a Class A misdemeanor or a felony.
  • During the last ten (10) years, must not have been convicted, pleaded guilty to (nolo contendere), been on community service/probation or deferred adjudication for a Class B misdemeanor in this state, other states, or while serving in the military.
  • If applicable, must have received an honorable discharge from the armed forces of the United States after at least two (2) years of active service.
  • Must pass a written entry-level exam.
  • Must pass the required physical agility test.
  • Must be examined by a licensed physician and a licensed psychiatrist or psychologist.
  • Must successfully complete and pass a polygraph examination.
  • Must complete all the requirements of a thorough and comprehensive background investigation.
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of firearms, criminal investigation equipment, photographic equipment, radio equipment, alarm systems, restraining devices, keys and locks, and emergency motor vehicles.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
  • Four (4) years of military active duty with an honorable discharge.
  • Six (6) months experience as a Police Guard or Telecommunications Operator or any other position that required the wearing of the approved University of Texas System Police Uniform.

Working Conditions
Working Environment:
  • Classroom conditions.
  • Exposure to outside weather conditions during firearms training and exercises involving practical problems.
  • Some outside training conducted during night hours.
  • Occasional after-hours and weekend work or overtime may be required.
Physical Demands:
  • Occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, finger, grasp, feel, and/or use repetitive motions.




This position will be primarily located on campus . Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
