Additional hours may be possible for non-event shifts when needed. This position is renewed on an annual basis and contingent on performance and continued funding. About Texas Performing Arts: Texas Performing Arts is the professional arts presenting and producing program of The University of Texas at Austin. One of the largest and most active university-based performing arts centers in the U.S., Texas Performing Arts is an anchor institution in Austin’s arts, cultural, and entertainment landscape. Texas Performing Arts operates venues on the UT campus including Austin’s largest theater, Bass Concert Hall. Its public programs include Broadway in Austin; an international season of dance, theater, music and more; and the Texas Welcomes series of national touring artists. Purpose Assist the Texas Performing Arts, Fabrication and Academic Production Department by producing skilled work in the preparation and painting of scenery, props, and display work. Responsibilities Execute precise painting of wood, plastic, fabric, or metal elements based on provided specifications, utilizing research imagery, paint elevations, drafting, verbal, and written instructions. Employ advanced multi-layered painting techniques to achieve exact faux-finishes as required. Utilize a variety of tools including rollers, paint brushes, and spray equipment proficiently to achieve desired results. Skillfully estimate paint quantities required for projects and accurately mix paints to specified colors and consistency using tint, sealer, and theater acrylics. Safely operate aerial work platforms and climb ladders to access work areas. Engage with students in an educational environment through interaction or instruction as necessary. Required Qualifications Understanding of color mixing, paint products, and uses Experience on Film set or Theater production shops Experience with Faux finishing Ability to read design documents and paint references Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications Experience as a crew lead Experience in an educational environment Demonstrated drawing skill Demonstrated organizational skills Hourly Range $17.50 - $20.00, depending on qualifications Working Conditions Standing and walking for extended periods of time Use of manual dexterity Lift up to 50 lbs. Climb stairs Work in a respirator for extended periods Work Shift Work shift is as scheduled and needed Required Materials Resume/CV 3 work references with their contact information; at least one reference should be from a supervisor Letter of interest Work samples may be requested if applicant advances to the interview stage.
