Job Description

Inspired by the intersection of market demand and faculty expertise, the Wharton School ("Wharton") launched the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Initiative (ESG-I) in July 2022.

The mission of Wharton's Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Initiative is, consistent with the vision of Joseph Wharton, to harness the power of business to "solve the social problems incident to our civilization."

The initiative unifies and builds upon several of Wharton's existing research centers, including the Business, Climate, and Environment and Political Risk Labs of the Wharton Risk Center, the Wharton Social Impact Initiative, the ESG Analytics Lab, and the Zicklin Center for Business Ethics.

One of the goals of the ESG-I is to provide best-in-class experiential education (learn by doing) to students in the areas covered by ESG-I.

We are looking for up to 4 consultants to provide support to our Wharton Impact Venture Associates (WIVA) program and our Wharton ESG Integration Projects (WEIP) program.

Job Location - City, State

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

WIVA Consultants will be expected to :

  • Advise and supervise student teams in sourcing and researching impactful startups
  • Provide students with strategic guidance, including giving feedback on deliverables, assisting with presentations and document preparation, and more
  • Manage weekly student team meetings
  • Meet with students and entrepreneurs as needed, to further the process
  • Assist with student communications related to ESG-I programs, including writing news stories, blog posts, and email blasts
  • Assist in program design and evolution, including collecting, analyzing, and responding to program feedback

WEIP Consultants will be expected to :

  • Review first-round applications, conduct interviews, and / or evaluate work samples (2x per year)
  • Work with ESG-I staff in selecting 5-7 students per project team (2x per year)
  • Hold virtual "office hours" for WEIP students 4 hours per week to provide feedback and guidance on project progress
  • Host virtual workshops on best practices for consultants (3x per semester)

Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, as well as internal and market factors and grade profile.
