Position Description

The Coordinator of Freshman Mathematics is the contact person for walk-in visitors, email, and phone calls related to freshman mathematics courses. Typical inquiries include explanations/complaints from students/parents about courses, teacher’s performance, course policies, departmental policies, university policies, etc; questions from other entities on campus regarding math courses, policies, prerequisites, etc.; questions about transfer equivalencies.

The Coordinator will be expected to teach three courses per semester in fall and spring.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Scheduling teaching assignments for support faculty and graduate instructors for 100-level and most 200-level courses for fall and spring; scheduling teaching assignments for all summer and intersession courses

  • Entering department course schedules during Event Planning

  • Adding students to classes who are unable to add themselves (need booking approvals, class capacity needs changing, international exchange students, overrides needed, conditional bookings, etc.)

  • Monitoring enrollment numbers in math courses, particularly during orientations

  • Evaluating transfer equivalencies for freshman level math courses

  • Submitting course materials for freshman level courses

  • Scheduling (and participating in) observations of graduate instructors’ teaching each semester

  • Keeping gradebook records for support faculty, graduate instructors, visiting professors, and those leaving the University

  • Sending out reminders about University deadlines/policies

  • Facilitating conversations between Title IX and The Violence Prevention Center and instructional faculty to ensure that student needs are being met and policies followed as needed

Must be a current University of Mississippi employee. Current employees must apply through connectU.

Candidates must have a Master's degree in Mathematics or a closely related field AND have demonstrated a record of excellence in teaching Mathematics.
