The University of Iowa Community Clinics (UICC) is seeking a patient and family centered 100% Laboratory Technician II to work at our UICC Bettendorf Clinics which includes Urgent Care, Family Medicine, and Outreach. This position will support our growing clinics with a strong laboratory focus (providing phlebotomy support as well as point of care testing).

Summary:
Under general supervision, the Laboratory Technician II performs phlebotomy and a variety of difficult venipuncture procedures, difficult technical procedures, and other associated responsibilities in the clinical laboratory, while maintaining laboratory area and equipment.
Position Responsibilities:
- Performs phlebotomy on our patients to include but not limited to: infants, children, and/or adolescents.
- Performs moderate-complex laboratory testing (urinalysis, blood tests, etc.) on clinical biological specimens such as blood and body fluids. Uses the Laboratory Information System to accession specimens. Performs, or may direct performance of, data entry, labeling and processing of laboratory specimens.
- Prepares specimens for transport to maintain specimen viability.
- Records results of laboratory testing and reports results in the Laboratory Information System and to clinicians in compliance with regulatory requirements and standard operating procedures.
- Operates, calibrates and maintains laboratory equipment and instruments.
- Performs records and reviews daily quality control as required for assigned testing/instrumentation.
- Cleans and maintains a medium-sized laboratory area and equipment therein, makes inventory reports and performs simple maintenance on laboratory equipment.
- Maintains supplies and equipment in medium sized laboratory area and orders additional supplies.
- Distributes incoming freight, laboratory supplies, environmental samples or biological specimens, and packs outgoing sample or specimen containers.
- Seeks assistance from the Laboratory Technical Consultant when complex equipment or technical issues arise. Informs the Laboratory Technical Consultant of significant laboratory variances.
- Responds to, or may direct response to, telephone inquiries regarding laboratory specimens. Investigates and resolves laboratory questions with minimum guidance.
- Driver's License and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards.

Percent of Time: 100% (40 hours per week)
Schedule: Variable schedule M-F, 4, 9hour shifts (07-1630) and 1, 4hour shift (07-11). 4 hour day may be adjusted week by week to fit the needs of the clinic however will be published ahead of time.
Location: Bettendorf, Iowa
Pay Grade: 8 https://hr.uiowa.edu/pay/merit-plan
Salary: $37,350.72 - $55,564.96 / Hourly: $17.82 - $26.51 (based on years of experience)
Minimum Eligibility Requirements
- Two years of related laboratory experience including one year as a Laboratory Technician I or equivalent level experience, OR
- Certified Laboratory Assistant (CLA) certification, OR
- Any combination of related post high school education and experience which totals two years.
Special Qualification/License:
- Driver's License and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards.
Highly Desired Qualifications
- Previous experience in performing laboratory testing (urinalysis, blood tests, etc.) on clinical biological specimens such as blood and body fluids, which may include but not limited to: Piccolo, CMP’s, CBS’s, etc.
- Previous experience with EPIC
- Phlebotomy experience
- Previous pediatric experience
