Job Description

Join UChicago Medicine, as a Military-Civilian Coordinator (MCC)in the Trauma Center.

The Military-Civilian Coordinator (MCC) is responsible for onboarding, orientation and coordination of training for all AMCT3 clinical staff at UChicago Medicine. The MCC is responsible for maintaining and escalating performance improvement opportunities and potential deviations from regulatory program requirements to hospital and AMCT3 leadership for assessment and resolution.

Participation in monthly Patient Improvement and Patient Safety (PIPS) meeting, falling under the auspices of both the Trauma Program Director (TPD)/Trauma Medical Director (TMD) with participation from Hospital/Biological services Division leadership and staff, is conducted ensuring that all in-hospital services providing trauma care are compliant with the meeting a high-quality standard. The MCC can assist the Trauma Program Director in reporting requirements to the Illinois Department of Health (IDPH), the American college of Surgeons and assist in reporting TQIP for local and national benchmarking, with the goal of improving quality of trauma care for the city of Chicago. The MCC will use evidenced-based practice and the nursing process to develop, institutionalize and evaluate new approaches to the AMCT3 program as well as assisting with educational training of nursing and AMCT3 staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities listed herein are not intended to be all-inclusive but rather to indicate the primary emphasis of the job and establish the parameters for the necessary skill, effort. Responsibility, data collection, research and working conditions that make up the job.

  • Oversight of all aspects of the AMCT3 program as listed below.
  • Plans, leads and coordinates activities to maintain AMCT3 program.
  • Demonstrates twenty-four hour accountability for AMCT3 training, practice and quality of care and assist the TMD and TPD in disaster management incidents to accomplish the overall mission and goals of both the Trauma and AMCT3 programs.
  • Develops administrative policies and procedures that provide guidance and support for the functioning of the AMCT3 staff.
  • Represents the Trauma service and AMCT3 program, in conjunction with the TPD and AMCT3 leadership on committees to include Peer Review, Morbidity and Mortality, Patient Safety and Process Improvement and other AMCT3 and trauma service committees to enhance and foster trauma care and AMCT3 program development.
  • Collaborates with the TPD and AMCT3 leadership in defining, guiding and evaluating the AMCT3 staff and program objectives, including the creation of hospital related policies and procedures.
  • Collection of registry data on the trauma patient population to identify trends for strategic planning, performance improvement and program development and expansion.
  • Ensure that productivity and ICTL standards are met or exceeded while creating and maintaining program standards for the AMCT3 clinical staff.
  • Serves as a consultant to other members of the multidisciplinary team regarding AMCT3 matters.
  • Collaborates with other participating AMCT3 facilities in performance improvement activities, benchmarking and education.
  • Assesses and evaluates all aspects of the AMCT3 and ICTL’s and assures continual readiness for inspection of the program.
  • Assists with trauma Performance Improvement (PI) and works with the TMD and TPD to assure integration of the trauma service performance improvement processes into organizational mission and goals Coordinates education and training for all clinical AMCT3 professional staff.
  • Collaborates with other disciplines and units in the hospital to facilitate quality assurance and comprehensive training to full scope of practice of all AMCT3 clinical staff.
  • Coordinates education and orientation concerning all clinical areas applicable to AMCT3 staff.
  • Collaborates with the Education Department in planning, providing, and evaluating clinical skills and patient care.
  • Functions as a hospital liaison to this hospital, other participating AMCT3 facilities and AMCT3 leadership.

Qualifications

  • Current RN licensure in the state of Illinois
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing or higher from an NLN accredited School of Nursing, required.
  • Basic Life Support certification through The American Heart Association
  • 5 years of clinical experience in Adult emergency and trauma care
  • 5 years of critical care/ICU clinical experience
  • Current TNS, TNCC, TCRN, ATCN
  • Leadership/supervisory experience preferred
