Job Description:

Join the UChicago Medicine Home Care in this role as a Private Duty Float (RN) Registered Nurse

The Private Duty Float (RN) Registered Nurse assists clients in meeting their psychosocial, safety, and physical needs by performing nursing procedures and judgment for which he or she has been educated and has provided proof and validation of necessary skills. The Private Duty RN assists with clients needs according to the plan of care and observes and records pertinent data to the Clinical Supervisor.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Provides services in accordance with policies of Ingalls Private Duty.
  • The RN performs specialized treatments.
  • Understands and demonstrates aseptic technique and sterile technique when required.
  • Prepares equipment and materials for treatment, observing aseptic technique.
  • Assists the client or family in learning appropriate self-care techniques.
  • Notifies Clinical Supervisor of changes in patient’s condition or behavior according to agency policy and protocol.
  • Informs Private Duty Supervisor of any unusual occurrences or circumstances as policy requires.
  • Ensures client’s equipment and supplies are utilized safely and assures client safety at all times. Reports any issues which may compromise client’s safety to designated Supervisor within the agency.
  • Records all pertinent clinical information on the clinical record as designated by agency policy.
  • Updates knowledge and skills by attending in-service programs, education offerings, etc. which are mandated by Ingalls Home Care and by individuals agencies or state regulations.
  • Ensures client right and confidentiality.
  • Commits to 100% patient and customer satisfaction by always exhibiting a courteous and helpful manner during interactions with other, including patients, families, visitors, physicians, students and co-workers

Required Qualifications

  • Current state of Illinois nursing license.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, ADN or LPN required
  • Current CPR is required.
  • One year of nursing experience required. One year of Pediatric care experience in an institutional setting and/or home care and/or private duty care preferred.
  • Verification to practice in any specialty areas is required such as pediatrics, Hi-tech, maternal/child, etc. Generally all certificates should be obtained from a National Credential body such as INS, ONS, etc. The Nurse Practice Act in the State of Illinois has very specific guidelines on the supervision and restrictions of Hi-Tech and other specialty areas of nursing in the Home.
  • Excellent observation, verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, basic math skills; nursing skills per competency checklist.
  • Possesses and maintains a valid driver’s license and current automobile insurance and has the availability of personal and dependable mode(s) of transportation to conduct home visits.

Continuing Education Requirements:

Ingalls Home Care personnel are expected to participate in appropriate continuing education as may be requested and/or required by their immediate supervisor. In addition, personnel are expected to accept personal responsibility for other educational activities to enhance job-related skills and abilities and as required by licensing standards and maintain 20 CE’s per Licensing year as required by Illinois Department of Professional Regulation.
