Position Description Summary/Purpose:

The Online Program Director in the School of Nursing assists in the coordination and management of the School of Nursing providing support for the Executive Director in the areas of RN to BSN and MSN online program and curriculum development, faculty orientation and evaluation, and ongoing responsibilities for preparation and monitoring related to licensure and accreditation. The Online Program Director reports to the Executive Director of the School of Nursing and works collaboratively with the Executive Director and all appropriate faculty and staff to develop and implement strategic plans, programs, and policies. The Online Program Director will teach at least one course each semester in their area of expertise. 

Essential Job Functions/Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and support in the development of online programs and related curriculum development and review
  • Recruit, orient, retain, evaluate and support online faculty
  • Develop course evaluation documents and assessment instruments for the RN to BSN and MSN online program
  • Provide leadership and management in the areas enrollment/admissions issues, retention, advisement, maintenance of student records, and student outcomes to facilitate student and program success
  • Assist the Executive Director to develop, review and assess academic plans, curriculum, programs, course schedules and budgets within the School of Nursing
  • In collaboration with the Executive Director, provide coordination of all activities related to licensure and accreditation
  • Plan and implement the development and assessment of student outcomes and develop a systematic plan for evaluation that meets licensure and accreditation standards for the online programs
  • Initiate community outreach efforts that enhance the development of the School of Nursing and its programs including hospital and education fairs
  • Monitor the need for and utilization of resources that support the online programs
  • Teach at least one course each semester in the area of expertise.
  • Support the Executive Director's efforts to engage all communities of interest for the School of Nursing in order to keep the curriculum current and attract needed resources to the School.
  • Conducts all work in a safe manner and all work safety practices are followed.

  • Assists other department staff as needed to promote a team effort.

  • Some evening and weekend hours may be required.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Doctoral degree from an accredited institution with a specialty in nursing or related field;
  • Certification in a nursing specialty a plus;
  • Current RN license in the State of Connecticut;
  • A minimum of four years of nurse educator experience
  • Experience with the standards and requirements of the Collegiate Commission on Nursing Education (CCNE) accreditation process and the completion of self-studies for program approval. 
  • Two years of successful teaching at the baccalaureate nursing level
  • Administrative experience at the college/university level
  • Demonstrated commitment to student success and to enhancing teaching and learning;
  • Experience with curriculum development;
  • Experience working with and sensitivity to the needs of a diverse population and the needs of the adult learner
  • Strong communication and people skills and the ability to work with faculty and communities of interest
  • Extensive experience with online program delivery including teaching or administration.
