Pay Range: $60,000 - $72,000

The Role:

The Stewardship Manager is responsible for identifying, planning and executing property-specific stewardship activities in the Central and Valley Region, focusing primarily on the 17 properties in the Central part of the region. The properties in this region feature unique and diverse landscapes, including an urban park, Trustees office buildings, large grassland fields, woodland trail systems, a campground, leased agricultural spaces, and historic property features. The Stewardship Manager will provide site-based leadership for all day-to-day operations on our properties, including maintenance, monitoring, enforcement of regulations, and collaboration with internal and external teams and stakeholders. The Stewardship Manager is responsible for overseeing projects and maintenance work where multiple staff are present. This role will serve as a coordinator for capital and special projects as appropriate. The Stewardship Manager position is primarily field based with some administrative tasks required to identify, plan and report technical stewardship initiatives. This role works collaboratively with other regional and statewide colleagues, supervises one full-time Steward, multiple Seasonal Stewards, volunteers; and reports to the Senior Regional Stewardship Manager. 

Essential Functions:

  • Identify day-to-day maintenance requirements for all properties. Prioritize, schedule, and carry out maintenance and project-based activities.

  • Communicate the primary property-based needs based on work order information and site-based knowledge of day-to-day requirements. Work with the Senior Regional Stewardship Manager to prioritize funding for necessary property improvements.

  • Hires, supervises, and trains Steward position(s), seasonal staff and volunteers, ensuring quality work and a rewarding experience for all involved. 

  • Participate in assessments for all asset categories on select properties.

  • Collaborate with Associate Director of Asset Management to manage the Doyle Campus, including multiple residential and office tenants, complex building systems, and a suite of maintenance contractors.

  • Identify and procure contractors, facilitate access and perform oversight associated with capital and special project initiatives.

  • Coordinate and manage relationships with property-based contractors and lessees, including plowing contractors and farmers.

  • Lead staff and volunteer workdays associated with property-based initiatives.

  • Collaborate with centralized resource teams to plan and execute property maintenance and improvement projects.

Along with Steward(s):

  • Plan and perform the day-to-day maintenance, stewardship, and conservation of properties, and general maintenance of all buildings and structures.

  • Implement seasonal maintenance programs for groundskeeping and landscaping. Conduct snow removal for office buildings and prioritized parking areas in winter.

  • Assist specialist teams as needed in stewardship projects, including invasive species mitigation, building maintenance and improvements, trail and trailhead improvements, and landscape design initiatives.

  • Support visitor experience and safety through property patrols, monitoring, ensuring proper wayfinding, and clean and functioning facilities.

  • Use and maintain vehicles, machinery, tools and equipment to the highest safety standards.Manage scheduling and maintenance of regionally shared equipment, including a mini-excavator and chipper.

  • Support special events and other significant programs as needed. 

Qualifications


Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of experience in property management/stewardship

  • 1-3 years of management experience 

  • Strong tactical skills and the ability to lead a crew effectively and efficiently. 

  • Technical expertise in property management and stewardship best practices. 

  • Experience with the use of asset-based guidelines, policies, and BMPs to drive stewardship priorities and measurable outcomes. 

  • Proven ability to complete, manage, and report on assigned projects and tasks, meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks. 

  • Proven ability to work independently day to day, and collaboratively across properties and with teams across the organization 

  • Strong communications skills and the ability to effectively share ideas and priorities. 

  • Experience working with volunteers. 

  • UTV operation, transport of trailers, light machinery (small tractor, mini-excavator, chipper) operation, chainsaws, and other power tool use or training, preferred.

  • Strong commitment to natural resource protection and the mission of The Trustees. 

  • Basic computer skills in Office365, and an ability to learn and use Trustees software systems. 

Certifications (preferred):

  • Wilderness First Aid certification, or willingness to acquire. 

  • MA Hoisting License 2A, or willingness to acquire.

  • OSHA 10, or willingness to acquire 

  • Pesticide Applicator License, or willingness to acquire
