About The Trustees:
The Trustees of Reservations (The Trustees) is the nation's premier conservation and preservation organization. Founded in 1891 by a group of visionary volunteers, we preserve, for public use and enjoyment, properties of exceptional scenic, historic, and ecological value in Massachusetts. We aim to protect special places for future generations to enjoy in perpetuity. We have helped protect more than 50,000 acres, including 27,000 acres on more than 120 reservations that are open to the public. We are a non-profit conservation organization funded and supported entirely by our visitors, supporters, volunteers, and our 100,000 Member households.
Summary: The South Shore Steward is pivotal in maintaining and enhancing the aesthetic appeal, integrity, and public perception of our natural spaces and associated infrastructure. Reporting to the South Shore Stewardship Manager, the Steward oversees seasonal Stewards and coordinates volunteer efforts within the garden spaces. Duties vary seasonally but primarily include landscaping, field care, invasive species management, tree care, equipment and infrastructure maintenance, and program support.
Essential Functions:
  1. Landscaping: Conduct mowing and weed whacking activities, ensuring the upkeep of designated areas. (55%)
  2. Field Care: Perform seasonal tractor mowing and manage invasive species to maintain field quality. (10%)
  3. Invasive Species Removal: Organize volunteer group work days and conduct spot treatments for invasive species. (10%)
  4. Tree Care: Undertake tasks such as removal, pruning, chipping, and planting to ensure the health and aesthetics of trees. (10%)
  5. Equipment Maintenance: Troubleshoot small-engine issues and ensure proper functioning of equipment. (5%)
  6. Infrastructure Repair: Manage parking lot grading and undertake light carpentry work for infrastructure upkeep. (5%)
  7. Trash and Snow Removal: Conduct weekly trash collection and provide snow plowing services as required. (5%)
  8. Positive Visitor Interaction: Maintain a welcoming demeanor and provide assistance to visiting members of the public. ( 100%)
Job Requirements:
  • Related Work Experience: 1-3 years
  • Supervisory Experience: 1-3 years (provides some level of supervision, training, mentoring)
  • Driving Requirements: Under 10k
Qualifications
Qualifications:
  • Minimum Education: High school diploma or GED
  • Preferred Education: Associate degree or vocational/technical school
  • Certifications or Licenses: Mass Pesticide Applicator License, Mass 2A Hoisting Engineer License
  • Other Skills & Competencies: Desired experience operating chainsaw, woodchipper, tractor, zero-turn mower, driving light to medium-duty trucks, driving with a trailer.
Physical/Environmental Demands:
