About the Farmer, Forester, Chef! Summer Camp Program:
Farmer, Forester, Chef! is a children’s summer day camp located at Powisset Farm in Dover, MA. Powisset Farm is a working CSA organic vegetable farm, with a vibrant learning garden, barnyard animals, beautiful trails, engaging education programs, and deep history that makes this a special place to visit and work. At summer camp, we have an interdisciplinary, hands-on approach to learning in the fields and forests, the learning garden, the barnyard, and the teaching kitchen. Our unique camp connects children to the land and the natural systems that support us all, while spending time outdoors, exploring, making friends, and having fun.

Position Summary
The Part-time Farm Camp Educator position at Powisset Farm is a seasonal role. The typical schedule for the part-time Farm Camp Educator is a 15-hour work week, Monday through Friday for the season. The camp season runs for nine weeks, from June 19–August 18 plus a staff training week June 12–June 16 from 11 AM–2 PM. The Part-time Farm Camp Educator is primarily responsible for the planning and daily execution of camp activities and direct supervision of camper groups (ages 6-12) which require an additional team member for supervision purposes.This role is designed to cover absences of full-time educators, including days off, daily breaks and lunch times.
 
Essential Functions:
  • Daily supervision and safe keeping of campers
  • Design and implement camp curriculum and activities based on farming, food, sustainability, and the natural world with support
  • from staff and farm resources
  • Plan daily age-appropriate activities and farm projects with teaching team
  • Lead daily plant and animal farm chores with designated age group between ages 6 and 12
  • Communicate with camper parents regarding camp questions and basic camper information
  • Perform daily camp staff chores to organize and prepare for each day
  • Ensure safety of campers and staff by closely following all COVID-19 protocols
  • Meet periodically with Camp Director to evaluate experience and performance
  • Other duties as assigned with or without accommodation
Qualifications
  • Working toward or holding a bachelor’s degree in environmental or agricultural education, the sciences, education, or other relevant course of study is preferred, but not required
  • Experience working as a camp counselor, classroom teacher, or informal educator with children ages 6-12
  • Must be outgoing, have a willingness to learn, and bring joy and enthusiasm to work every day
  • Must have experience with and enjoy working with children in an outdoor setting and creativity developing farm-based learning experiences and activities
  • Knowledge of or interest in farm-based education, food, and sustainability
  • Knowledge of or interest in farm-to-table culinary arts and cooking farm-fresh food
  • A desire to share your passion for the natural world with children
  • A familiarity with Powisset Farm and The Trustees of Reservations helpful
Other Requirements:
  • Reliable transportation
  • Must be fully available for camp staff training week and all 9 weeks of camp (June 12–August 18)
  • A satisfactory criminal background check (CORI and SORI)
  • Community CPR and Basic First Aid certifications required by June 1, 2023
  • Able and willing to work outdoors in variable weather conditions
