About Hilltown Land Trust

Hilltown Land Trust (HLT) is a small, regional land conservation organization serving thirteen rural towns. HLT’s mission is to conserve and steward land through strong relationships to ensure clean water, wildlife habitat, climate resilience, recreational opportunities, and healthy farmland for the benefit of all. Since our founding in 1986, HLT has conserved over 5,000 acres of land and retains some stewardship responsibility for nearly 50 properties. In 2010, HLT and The Trustees launched a partnership to combine the efforts and resources of these two non-profit land conservation organizations in the Hilltowns. The formal affiliation combines the deep experience and administrative support of The Trustees with the flexibility and community relationships of Hilltown Land Trust.

Position Type: Year Round - Part Time (50% or 60%), salary

Pay Range: $31,400 - $35,400 for 50% or $37,680 - 42,480 for 60%

A day in the life of this role:

Location: Main Office, Ashfield, MA, with some time at Florence, MA office. (Part-Time, 20-24 hours/week)

Be at the forefront of rural land conservation efforts as Hilltown Land Trust's Development Manager! This key role is a chance to make a significant impact in conserving lands essential to the health of people and wildlife. You'll spearhead our fundraising initiatives, from crafting compelling appeals to nurturing major donor relationships and exploring legacy giving opportunities. Your efforts in grant writing will fuel our mission, support innovative conservation partnerships, and help us achieve more each day. Hilltown Land Trust is a group of five staff and two AmeriCorps members where your ideas matter, and your impact is valued and celebrated.

Your Role:

  • Lead the charge in our development operations, including annual, planned, and monthly giving programs, backed by the support of our Executive Director, Board of Directors, and Engagement Committee.
  • Use our CRM database to track key donor information, ensuring our strategies are data-driven and effective.
  • Write grants that support our daily operations and innovative partnerships with support from program staff.
  • Collaborate closely with our Community Engagement Manager and Executive Director to align our public communications and fundraising materials, creating a unified voice that resonates with our community.
  • Participate in other organization-wide initiatives including strategic planning.


What we need from you:

  • 3 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising or a related field.
  • Exceptional writing, communication, and networking skills to engage and inspire.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, adapting to various needs and challenges at a small nonprofit.
  • Experienced with CRM databases, preferably Little Green Light, and is comfortable with Microsoft Office, Wordpress, and social media platforms.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to fostering diversity and creating an inclusive environment for everyone.
