Under general supervision, this position performs specialized technical inspection of construction projects and electric system installations in new, existing, and remodeled spaces. The position may be required to perform plan review and inspect the following construction activity: plumbing, mechanical, structural and fire/life safety to determine compliance with current codes and standards adopted by the Town of Parker.

  • Conducts inspections in the following areas of trade certification(s): electrical, plumbing, mechanical, structural, and fire/life safety.
 
  • Reviews permits, plans, and specifications; confers with customers to ensure conformance with adopted codes in specified area of trade certification(s).
 
  • Assists contractors, property owners and the public in the interpretation and application of adopted building codes.
 
  • Investigates complaints of code violations and enforces correction of defects.
 
  • Conducts re-inspections to determine if code violations, construction defects and trade deficiencies have been corrected.
 
  • Prepares and maintains complete and accurate reports, logs, and records of all building inspections and actions taken to achieve compliance with Town of Parker regulations.
 
  • Provides positive customer service to applicants, the public and other Town departments and governmental entities.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
The requirements listed below are representative of the education, experience, certification and/or licensure required. An equivalent combination of education and experience to perform the essential duties and meet the necessary employment standards may be considered.

High school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by two (2) years of relevant experience in construction or in building trades with work performed in conformance with standard codes. 
 
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Driver's License issued by the State of Colorado for the type of vehicle or equipment operated; safe driving record and a minimum of two (2) years of driving history. 
 
Employees within the Electrical Inspector position series are eligible to participate in a self-initiated progression for promotional advancement through inspector levels. Below are the distinguishing characteristics of each level:
 
Electrical Inspector I:This is an entry-level position within the Electrical Inspector position series. This position is distinguished from the others within this series by the performance of less complex, limited, and routine tasks. The Inspector I position may require substantial training and supervision of employees hired with minimal or no related work experience.
 
This level requires a possession of a Residential Wireman or Journeyman Electrician license issued by the state of Colorado.
 
This level requires the following certifications be obtained within one (1) year of hire: International Code Council (ICC) Certification in one (1) of the following areas of certification: Residential Electrical Inspector or Commercial Electrical Inspector. 
 
Electrical Inspector II:
This is a mid-level position within the Electrical Inspector position series. This position is distinguished from the others within this series by experience, additional certifications, and the performance of the full range of tasks and duties. The Inspector II receives occasional direction and assistance but can work independently with limited supervision in most instances. This position requires an understanding of industry best practices, Building Division operating procedures and Town policies. Movement to/or placement in an Inspector II role presumes all requirements of an Inspector I (or the equivalent) have been met. 
 
This level requires two (2) years of electrical inspection experience and one (1) year of residential plan review experience. 
 
This level requires the following: possession of a Journeyman Electrician license issued by the state of Colorado and International Code Council (ICC) Certifications in each of the following areas of certification: Residential Electrical Inspector, Commercial Electrical Inspector, and Electrical Plans Examiner. 
 
This level requires an additional two (2) of the following International Code Council (ICC) Certifications in any of the following areas of certification within two (2) years of employment: building, plumbing, mechanical, or fire.
 
Electrical Inspector III:
This is an upper-level position within the Building Inspector position series. This position is distinguished from the others within this series by the years of experience, additional certifications, and the performance of the full range of tasks, duties, and special assignments. The Inspector III receives only limited instruction or assistance and is fully aware of the Building Division operating procedures and Town policies. Movement to/or placement in an Inspector III role presumes all requirements of an Inspector II (or the equivalent) have been met. 
 
This level requires six (6) years of electrical inspection experience and three (3) years of residential and/or commercial plan review experience.
 
This level requires an additional three (3) of the following International Code Council (ICC) Certifications in any of the following areas of certification within two (2) years of employment: building, plumbing, mechanical, fire, or plans examination.
 
Employment Standards
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Knowledge of the design, construction, and function of one (1) or more of the following trades: electrical, plumbing, mechanical, structural, equipment and systems, and fire/life safety.
  • Knowledge of applicable building codes, municipal standards and enforcement of codes and standards.
  • Knowledge of possible defects and flaws in building construction relating to the specific area of trade certification and the necessary corrective measures.
  • Skill to identify potential needs and problems with the ability to problem-solve with workable solutions.
  • Ability to read and interpret a variety of building plans especially for electric systems. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with applicants, contractors and the public.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with key staff members in the Department and at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision while in the field with the ability to follow specific directions.
  • Ability to interact with and, where necessary, negotiate effectively with builders, contractors, developers and members of the public.
  • Ability to work with difficult applicants and customers including the ability to resolve conflict.
  • Ability to use required tools, office equipment and computer applications.
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment background check. 
Full Salary Range for I: $31.08-$43.51
Full Salary Range for II: $33.56-$46.99
Full Salary Range for III: $35.51-$51.49

Tools & Equipment
Requires frequent use required tools, general office equipment, specialized equipment, ladders, reference materials and an automobile.
 
Physical Demands
Requires regular sitting, standing, walking, talking, handling, feeling or operating objects, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Requires occasionally reaching with hands and arms, climbing and balancing. Requires moderate physical activity with heavy lifting, up to fifty (50) pounds and the occasional need to carry, pull, push, or life one hundred (100) pounds with assistance.
 
Requires close and distance vision acuity and the ability to adjust focus, allowing a broad field of vision. Requires clear and effective communication; must understand and be understood. The employee must be able to operate a Town-issued vehicle without assistance.
 
This is a field position. The employee must access development sites and be able to regularly cross sloping and unimproved property to enter buildings that are under construction. The employee must be able to access limited clearance areas such as attics, basements, and crawl spaces. The employee must be able climb ladders and stairs, traverse unfinished roofs, and utilize a lift.
 
Environment
Work is frequently performed in outside conditions in all weather conditions. The noise level is usually moderate and may range from moderate to extreme. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and humid conditions, hot and/or cold conditions, or airborne particles. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts; in high, precarious places. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, and vibrationquired tools, office equipment and computer applications.
