The Terrace of Kissimmee is Hiring a Restorative Nursing Assistant Near Orlando, FL

Position Summary

The purpose of this position is to support the restorative nursing department and implement facility wide mandates for restorative care. A restorative nurse's aide is a certified nursing assistant with the primary duty to carry through with restorative programs specifically designed by a therapist. A restorative nurse's aide helps resident’s gain an improved quality of life by increasing and/or maintaining their level of strength and mobility.

Delegation of Authority

As the Restorative Certified Nursing Assistant, you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.

Job Functions

Duties and Responsibilities

Use the wristband or photo in the electronic record to identify residents before administering treatments, serving meals, etc., as necessary.

Follow all facility policy and procedures.

Record all entries on flow sheets, notes, charts, electronic medical record etc., in an informative and descriptive manner.

Use only authorized abbreviations established by this facility when recording information.

Report all changes in the resident's condition to the Nurse Supervisor/Unit Manager or Charge Nurse as soon as practical.

Report all accidents and incidents observed on the shift immediately.

Assist residents in preparing for activity and social programs (i.e., church services, patties, visitors, etc.).

Assist in transporting residents to/from appointments, activity and social programs, etc., as necessary.

Assist with lifting, turning, moving, positioning, and transporting residents into and out of beds, chairs, bathtubs, wheelchairs, lifts, etc.

Assist residents to walk with or without self-help devices as instructed.

Change dressings, bandages, binders, etc., as instructed.

Assist with the application of non-sterile (moist and dry) warm/cold compresses

Perform any other CNA duties as necessary or assigned

All other duties as assigned, directed or necessary

Special Restorative Care Functions

Implement restorative treatment plans to increase residents’ strength capacity and general well-being.

Maintain accurate records of the care provided in accordance with the resident’s treatment plan

Apply specialized knowledge in carrying out therapeutic techniques under the supervision of therapy and/or nursing staff.

Understand the basic concepts of and how to apply braces, prosthesis, slings, and restraining devices. Utilize devices in accordance with the resident’s plan of care.

Perform transfers in accordance with the resident’s plan of care.

Utilize appropriate positioning techniques to minimize discomfort, maintain skin integrity, and to enhance the resident’s well-being.

Understand and utilize assistive devices for gait appropriate for the patient.

Follow the program set by the Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapist and the Director of Nursing. Confer with them concerning patient changes/improvements and discharges on a regular basis.

Be involved in daily grooming skills as recommended by the Occupational Therapist. Carry out specific feeding programs as designated by the Speech Therapist with specific residents.

Perform or assist residents with basic range of motion and other exercises as instructed by

the therapist and accurately record data of care provided.

Turn bedfast residents in accordance with the resident’s plan of care, as needed, and/or facility policy.

Perform special treatments as instructed.

Engage residents in physical activities to help stabilize their mobility through exercise routines developed by the center.

Inform nurses/ immediate supervisor of developments in patients’ health.

Assist in the development and maintenance of personal skills such as eating, bathing, dressing, grooming and weighing of residents.

Maintain and clean restorative equipment. Report any problems to maintenance for remediation.

All other duties as assigned, directed or necessary.

Staff Development

Participate and assist in department studies and projects as directed.

Attend and participate in in-service educational classes, on-the-job training programs, etc., as scheduled or as directed, but, at minimum, annually.

Attend and participate in annual OSHA and CDC in-service training programs for hazard communication, TB management, and blood borne pathogens standard.

Safety and Sanitation

Follow established fire safety policies and procedures.

Follow established safety precautions when performing tasks and when using equipment and supplies.

Wear and/or use safety equipment and supplies (e.g., mechanical lifts, etc.) when lifting or moving heavy objects.

Utilize proper body mechanics when assisting, transferring or moving residents.

Ensure that assigned work areas are maintained in a clean, safe, comfortable, and attractive manner.

Keep work/assignment areas free of hazardous objects such as unnecessary equipment, supplies, etc.

Follow proper techniques when mixing chemicals, disinfectants, and solutions used for cleaning. Refer to manufacturer's instructions when necessary.

Follow established policies governing the use off-labels and SDSs. Report all hazardous conditions or equipment to your supervisor.

Ensure that established infection control and universal precautions practices are maintained when handling linen.

Participate in appropriate in-service training program prior to performing tasks that involve potential exposure to blood, body fluids, or hazardous chemicals.

Use appropriate personal protective equipment and supplies when handling infectious materials and/or hazardous wastes or chemicals.

Follow established hand washing procedures.

Follow established policies governing the use/disposal of personal protective equipment and disposal of infectious wastes.

Other(s) that may become necessary/appropriate to assure that our facility is maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner.

Personnel Functions

Perform all assigned tasks in accordance with established policies and procedures, and as instructed by supervisors.

Comply with the Facility’s Compliance Program.

Follow work assignments, and/or work schedules in completing and performing assigned tasks.

Cooperate with inter-departmental personnel, as well as other facility personnel to ensure that nursing services can be adequately maintained to meet the needs of the residents.

Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the unit/shift.

Meet with your shift's nursing personnel, on a regularly scheduled basis, to assist in identifying and correcting problem areas, and/or to improve services.

Notify the facility when you will be late or absent from work.

Report occupational exposures to blood, body fluid, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals to supervisor.

Personal Nursing Care Functions

Follow established policies concerning exposure to blood/body fluids.

Provide care in accordance with the resident’s plan of care

Follow all applicable facility policy and procedures.

Obtain vitals.

Assist residents with daily dental and mouth care (i.e., brushing teeth/dentures, oral hygiene, or special mouth care, etc.).

Assist residents with bath functions (i.e., bed bath, tub or shower bath, etc.) as directed.

Assist residents with dressing/undressing as necessary.

Assist residents with hair care functions (i.e., combing, brushing, shampooing, etc.).

Shave male residents.

Keep hair on female residents clean shaven (i.e., facial hair, under arms; on-legs, etc.) as instructed.

Assist residents with nail care (i.e., clipping, trimming, and cleaning the fingernails).

Resident Rights

Maintain the confidentiality of all resident information.

Ensure that you treat all residents and families fairly, and with kindness, dignity, and respect.

Ensure that all nursing care is provided in privacy.

Knock before entering the resident's room.

Report all grievances and complaints made by the resident to the Nurse Supervisor/Unit Manager or Charge Nurse.

Report all allegations of resident abuse, neglect, injuries of unknown source, and/or misappropriation/theft of resident property immediately.

Honor the resident's refusal of treatment request. Report such requests to your supervisor.

Working Conditions

Works throughout the nursing service area (i.e., drug rooms, nurses' stations, resident rooms, etc.).

Moves intermittently during work hours.

Is subject to frequent interruptions.

Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.

Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, and visitors. Communicates with nursing personnel, and other department personnel.

Works beyond normal working hours, weekends and holidays when necessary.

Is subject to call-back during emergency conditions (e.g. severe weather, evacuation, post- disaster, etc.).

Is subject to injury from falls, bums from equipment, odors, assaults from hostile residents, etc. throughout the work day, as well as reactions from dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, and other air contaminants.

Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB and the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.

May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals.

Education, Certification and Background Screening Requirements

Must possess, as a minimum, a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Must possess and maintain a clear and active CNA certification.

Must possess and maintain an Eligible/Clear Background Screening.

Experience

None. On-the-job training provided.

Specific Requirements

Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

Must possess the ability to make independent decisions, follow instructions, and accept constructive criticism.

Must be willing to work harmoniously with other personal as well as be willing to handle residents based on whatever maturity level at which they are currently functioning

Must be able to follow written and oral instructions

Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace

Physical and Sensory Requirements

(With or Without the Aid of Mechanical Devices)

Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day.

Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.

Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.

Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of the position can be fully met.

Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents and personnel.

Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility which include a medical and physical examination.

Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the facility.

Must be able to push, pull, move, &/or lift a minimum of 25 lbs. to a minimum height of 5ft & be able to push, pull, move, &/or carry such weight a minimum of 450 ft.

May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.

Must be able to bend, stoop, stand and walk the entire scheduled shift.
