The TCW Group is Hiring a BI Developer Near Los Angeles, CA

Position Summary

The Power BI Developer will work as part of the Data Engineering team, focusing on building and deploying solutions using Microsoft Power BI. This individual will be responsible for Power BI development and administration, building data models, and transforming enterprise data for Business Intelligence. They will manage reports and dashboards through distribution of workspaces/apps while providing solutions to teams including trading, marketing, operations and others throughout the firm. This role requires strong business analytics and financial engineering experience, as well as the ability to collaborate directly with various teams to improve processes and enhance capabilities in an ever-changing business environment. Strong technical skills combined with business acumen is critical in order to translate business requirements into sound, client facing BI solutions. This role will also include project management responsibilities on small to mid-size initiatives.

Essential Duties

  • Collaborate with business partners and Data Architects as a hands-on technologist, responsible for end-to-end data solution delivery to solve complex data problems.
  • Ingest data from a variety of corporate data sources, and develop production ready solutions in tools such as Microsoft Power BI. Prototype, test, build, and launch BI products.
  • Utilize navigation features effectively within the BI application suite (e.g. bookmarks, drill-through) to guide readers through a compelling data-driven story.
  • Design effective layouts using Data Visualizations best practices.
  • Perform data modeling and undertake data analysis to support decision making
  • Proactively keep up-to-date on data-related technologies that could drive positive change.
  • Communicate effectively with Managers and the Project Leads, provide progress updates, roadblocks, and offer suggestions and possible solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and support the entire solution across all layers of the data platform.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data, or equivalent
  • Experience developing engaging and effective data visualizations using Power BI, Tableau, or related tools
  • Knowledge of latest Power BI features and functionality, and ability to keep abreast of all of the associated updates and trends
  • Experience with SQL Server and other database technologies including writing SQL queries with complex datasets

Professional Skills Qualifications

  • Strong communication, problem solving, and organizational skills
  • Must be detail-oriented, quality driven, and able to shift quickly to new tasks

Desired Qualifications

  • Candidates would benefit from an asset management/financial services background (especially in Fixed Income)
  • 3 years of relevant work experience in analytics, data engineering, BI or related field
  • 3 years of experience in implementing data solutions
  • Experience with some cloud platforms/tools such as Snowflake, cloud ETL processes, and Azure technologies including Data Lake and Data Factory
