The Suter Company Inc is Hiring a Maintenance Technician Near Sycamore, IL

Description

CORE HOURS

  • Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Maintenance Technician reports to the Plant Engineering Manager and is responsible for performing preventative maintenance and repairs on equipment and the upkeep of both of our manufacturing facilities. This individual will inspect equipment and assist in preventing equipment downtime and take appropriate corrective actions to prevent both machine and component failures. This role works with minimum direct supervision and directly with other onsite Maintenance Technicians.

UNIVERSAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the Mission of the Company by identifying and accomplishing team and individual performance goals that directly support the goals of the Company.
  • Treat all co-workers, customers, and suppliers with respect and in accordance with the Company’s Code of Ethics.
  • Follow all company GMPs and SOPs

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitor and perform mechanical repairs on various equipment such as conveyor systems, pumps, valves, basic plumbing, electrical diagnostics, and motors.
  • Change oil and filters per the manufacturer’s recommendations.
  • Maintain sanitary working conditions to stay in compliance with health regulations.
  • Start and stop equipment, as well as complete shutdown procedures. Research parts and components used to repair and upgrade equipment.
  • Use basic troubleshooting techniques to determine equipment and building-related equipment malfunctions.
  • Operate a variety of hand tools including volt/ohm meters, calipers, and micrometers, and shop equipment including drills, saws, and torches. 
  •  Operate shop equipment including drills, saws, and torches.
  • Assure any maintenance activity does not compromise product safety; comply with OSHA safety, health, and environmental rules and regulations.
  • Communicate the status of in-process repairs and projects to the production and quality teams as required. In the case of a project that extends beyond the current shift, communicate effectively with the next shift.
  • Willing to work in wet environments as necessary.
  • Fabricate simple machine parts as necessary.
  • Use moderate troubleshooting techniques to determine equipment and building-related equipment malfunctions.
  • Operate forklifts and man lifts.
  • Perform moderate plumbing, electrical, steam, and hydraulic repairs with limited or no supervision.
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers, management, service providers, and suppliers.

PERIODIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contact parts suppliers. 
  • Stock parts and materials in the department storehouse.
  • Train production operators to use, operate, and understand equipment.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Technical degree (or working towards a degree) or official certification in electrical or mechanical preferred.
  • Five years of experience in a maintenance role in a maintenance role in a manufacturing facility performing preventative maintenance and mechanical repairs on a variety of equipment.
    • Maintenance experience in the food or beverage industry is preferred. 
  • Two years of technical experience in one or more areas: Electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic, computer-controlled equipment, PLC, or HVAC.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics, and manuals. 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. 
  • High level of electro-mechanical knowledge of industrial equipment.
  • Ability to use mechanic and electrician hand and power tools as necessary.
  • Well-developed troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary for product safety.
  • Continuous improvement mindset.
  • Basic to moderate understanding of PLCs and HMIs
  • Utilize welding equipment with average proficiency.

ABILITIES AND SKILLS

  • Ability to work well with moderate to high levels of pressure.
  • Ability to work independently with moderate to minimal supervision. 
  • Reasoning –Use logic or reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions or approaches to problems.
  • Mathematical – Arithmetic, algebraic, and geometric calculations.
  • Language Development – Ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand; follow technical manuals; have increased contact with people.
  • Technical – ability to repair and/or improve equipment, processes, or systems using appropriate tools.
  • Physical Effort – Heavy effort is required, exerting up to 20 pounds of force constantly, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 100 pounds of force occasionally to move objects. 
  • Vision – Far, near, and mid-range vision, depth perception, color identification, and field of vision
  • Activity – Regularly required to stand; frequently required to walk, climb, balance, reach with hands and arms, use finger dexterity, grasp, or feel, talk, and hear; occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
