POSITION OVERVIEW
As the Special Projects Manager, you will play a key role in steering strategic initiatives crucial to the agency's mission. Your responsibilities encompass planning, organizing, and overseeing projects to ensure they not only meet but surpass expectations in terms of timelines, budget adherence, and quality. This role requires a robust project management skill set, covering planning, scheduling, monitoring, and reporting, all while efficiently handling multiple projects simultaneously. The ideal candidate thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with rapidly changing priorities and is adept at navigating a wide range of controversial topics with tact and decorum.
Please note: this role does not allow for any form of remote work, including telecommuting or hybrid arrangements. The nature of this position necessitates a consistent in-person presence. Prospective candidates should be aware that the responsibilities associated with this role require physical presence at the designated workplace in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field [official transcripts required upon hire];
  • Five (5) years of proven experience in successful project management, ensuring end-to-end oversight and a track record of successful project completion.

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license from a U.S. state or territory to perform necessary job-related travel.

  • Knowledge & Expertise: Proficient in planning and executing major projects, demonstrating a capacity to work independently and proactively take initiative. Skilled in conducting comprehensive research and analysis using diverse information systems to offer insightful guidance and recommendations on special projects. In-depth understanding and interpretation of the implications of education laws, rules, regulations, standards, and procedures. Expertise in monitoring potential legislation, with the ability to comprehend and analyze its potential impact on the department. Advanced analytical skills, capable of comparing, prioritizing, and evaluating complex data. Proficient in presenting findings clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, to communicate concepts and conclusions effectively. Ability to develop and assess alternative solutions, with a keen awareness of the consequences of decisions and recommendations. Capable of performing effectively under pressure and adept at managing emotionally charged or confrontational situations.
  • Primary Functions: Assist the Chief Policy Advisor with the daily administration of strategic initiatives. Write, research and quickly turn around reports, briefs, and program updates at the request of senior leadership.
  • Project Planning & Execution: Develop project plans, timelines, and milestones in coordination with various agencies and divisions, and ensure that project objectives are clearly defined and communicated. Coordinate project activities, including managing project budgets, resources, timelines, and deliverables, and ensuring that project tasks are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
  • Project Monitoring and Reporting: Monitor project progress and identify any issues that may arise during project implementation. Report project progress and status to senior leadership regularly.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Location: Oliver Hodge Building, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
  • Work is typically performed in a climate-controlled office setting with exposure to moderate noise. While performing the duties of the job, employee is frequently required to talk, stand, walk. This position requires long periods of sitting and daily use of computer and phone. Must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time;
  • Ability to stand, reach and bend 50% of the time;
  • Operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine/printer, office telephone 75% of the time;
  • Ascends/descends stairs 25% of the time;
  • Communicate with others accurately and effectively 100%;
  • Ability to lift to 25 lbs.
