Position Summary & Responsibilities
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
State Liaison:
Serves as a liaison and advocate representing the counties within their respective region to KDEM and other local, regional, state, and federal agencies/organizations to build and sustain a statewide comprehensive emergency management program.
Establishes and maintains partnerships with emergency management stakeholders across all levels of government, including private industry and non-governmental organizations.
Assists KDEM and designated state agency staff collaborating with emergency management stakeholders in counties within their region. Serves as KDEM’s representative to their respective regional homeland security council and other regional committees, working groups, etc. at leadership’s discretion.
Serves as regional or state representative on deployable resource and preparedness working groups at leadership’s discretion.
Assists with the coordination of emergency management and homeland security preparedness activities with other stakeholders, including local, state, federal, and non-governmental organizations.
Technical Assistance:
Provide ongoing technical assistance and mentoring to county emergency management programs through all phases of emergency management – mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery.
Establishes a regular schedule of consultation meetings with county emergency management directors/coordinators to assess current program status and additional needs.
Support and advise counties within their respective region pertaining the implementation and sustainment of county emergency operations plans and other local/regional planning initiatives.
Support and advise counties within their respective region for the facilitation of an annual training and exercise planning workshop to identify a county’s multi-year training and exercise needs.
Qualifications
Education: High School
Minimum Qualifications: One year of experience in planning, organizing, and directing the work of a department, program, or agency; preferred three (3) years of experience in emergency management or related field; excellent written and verbal, communications skills; adept at creating and delivering presentations and public speaking; strong organizational and computer skills. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
Preferred Qualifications: Three years of work experience in emergency management, emergency services, public safety, or related discipline.
Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements: Must have valid drivers License. Ability to pass background check to obtain security clearances. Position may require deployment to disaster areas in adverse weather and austere conditions; ability to move safely over uneven terrain and work under various weather conditions. Must establish residency in the south central region within a 50 mile radius of official workstation in Wichita.
