This position leads the Kansas Department of Revenue (KDOR) Legal Division and Office of Special Investigations (OSI). Provides legal counsel to the Secretary, the agency, and KDOR Office of Personnel Services (OPS). The Chief Counsel participates in strategic planning, setting organizational goals and priorities and managing the legal budget. The Legal Division provides legal counsel to the agency and represents KDOR at all levels of state district and appellate courts, as well as all levels of federal district and appellate courts and administrative agencies. KDOR attorneys have expertise in a wide variety of areas of law.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school. Licensed Kansas attorney in good standing with the Kansas Bar and at least five years of complex work experience as an attorney.
Preferred Experience: Prefer at least two years of experience in state government specifically in employment law. Significant professional, managerial and leadership experience in a legal setting. Demonstrated flexibility and ability to work under pressure with short and long-term projects simultaneously. Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment and conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines.
Preferred Skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access. Superior writing and editing skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise materials with meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements: KBI and FBI fingerprint required due to access to Federal Tax Information files in KDOR systems and due to the position which may come into contact with sensitive Criminal History Record Information.
