Description

Salary is Non-Negotiable. The successful candidate will be hired at the minimum salary.

This position must establish, and maintain effective working relationships with the judiciary, court system personnel including clerks of the court, attorneys, interpreters, law enforcement and the public. Employees in this class will be assisting the Hearing Officer or judge presiding over civil traffic infraction virtual court hearings on the Zoom platform.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures that courtrooms and chambers are ready for use.
  • Responsible for handling Zoom platform and procedures.
  • Ensures that all parties and clerical support personnel are in attendance; research and confirm each person entering is in the correct meeting.
  • Delivers documents to judge or hearing officer from the Liaison to the courtroom.
  • Covers for Court Specialist in county criminal division or bond hearings.
  • Maintains order during court sessions, remains alert to possible disturbances; removes and reports any cyber disturbances.
  • Performs responsibilities of Fire Warden during emergency evacuation situations.
  • Performs related work as required.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from a standard high school or GED.
  • Experience in security work or military service.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Knowledge of Zoom platform and procedures.
  • Considerable knowledge of established procedures for the conduct of judicial proceedings in courtroom and chambers.
  • Knowledge of local instructions and rules of practice issued by judges or hearing officers.
  • Some knowledge of established procedures in the flow of official business between the Office of the Clerk of Courts and courtrooms.
  • Some knowledge of the use of legal instruments and records pertinent to the court of assignment.
  • Ability to establish rapport with judges, hearing officers, law enforcement personnel, and employees of the court system and the Clerk of the Courts.
  • Ability to deal with jurors, witnesses, attorneys and the general public with necessary tact and courtesy.
  • Ability to remain alert and observant with attention to necessary detail during the conduct of court sessions.
  • Ability to maintain composure in the event of courtroom disturbances and to restrain persons creating such disturbances effectively.
  • Ability to react quickly in following judge’s or hearing officer’s directives in emergencies which arise during court sessions.
  • Ability to follow all established procedures previous to, during and following the conclusion of court sessions.
  • Willingness to work at any courthouse location for Miami-Dade County.
  • Willingness to work extended hours as the occasion demands.
  • Willingness to follow requirements of official conduct as a representative of the court system.

  • Work involves a significant amount of standing, walking, sitting, talking, listening, balancing, stooping, and reaching with hands and arms; must be able to transfer up to 10 pounds.
