Within DCF, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office is recognized as the single state authority for substance abuse and mental health services. The Office of SAMH is statutorily responsible for the planning, evaluation, and implementation of a comprehensive statewide system of care for the prevention, treatment, and recovery of children and adults with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders.

Florida State Hospital (FSH) is a mental health treatment facility owned and operated by the State of Florida and is part of the Department of Children and Families. The department’s mission is to “work in partnership with local communities to protect the vulnerable, promote strong and economically self-sufficient families, and advance personal and family recovery and resiliency.”

THIS ADVERTISEMENT WILL BE USED TO FILL MULTIPLE VACANCIES.

This is a highly responsible and professional position that will serve as Pharmacy Technician – OPS. This position will collaborate with each section within the state facilities and be required to use independent judgement, take initiative in carrying out duties and responsibilities and should be extraordinarily detail oriented.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • This position requires lifting, pulling, and squatting. Duties of this position require the incumbent to be knowledge of and utilize the principles of Total Quality Management.
  • The employee assigned to this position is responsible for the procurement of all drugs used by consumers in conjunction with the State’s Psychiatric Indigent Drug Program (IDP). The purchases for this Program are approximately $6,000,000.00 annually and are distributed to 55 providers and 103 Pharmacies throughout the State. The following duties and responsibilities are assigned to this position.
  • Process all purchase requisitions for drugs to be distributed through the Indigent drug Program. Adheres to approved purchasing procedures, uses approved prime vendor and proper procedures for off contract purchases. Initiates requisitions for carriers for shipment of the dugs to mental health providers throughout the state. Purchases special drugs for Substance Abuse Program. Keeps record of purchase orders and receiving. Works closely with financial services to help insure timely payment of invoices.
  • Input all purchase orders and receiving orders into the State Inventory Management System. Receives drug ships to ensure correctness of items received, expiration dates, and charges. Maintains appropriate inventory by reviewing drug stocks and placing orders as needed to prevent inadequate supplies as well as over stocking. Complies reports and inventory data as needed. Provides inventory reports for providers monthly to keep them current of drug formulary. Helps in preparing for and performing annual inventory. Helps to ensure proper drug storage including monitoring of storage room temperature. Keeps on file, copies of current licenses of each pharmacy shipped to and signature authorizations for drug orders for each provider.
  • Orders office supplies; files paperwork; helps to prepare orders to shipment. Acts as backup for co-worker during their off-duty times.
  • Performs other related duties.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required for the position:

  • Knowledge of the standards and terminology used in the practice of pharmacy.
  • Ability to inventory supplies.
  • Ability to maintain records.
  • Ability to collect and analyze data and prepare reports.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work responsibilities.
  • Ability to prepare purchase requisitions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Registered Pharmacy Technician with the State of Florida Board of Pharmacy.
  • A high school diploma or its equivalent, or completion of a vocational, military or community college pharmacy technician program or licensed practical nursing program and one year of experience as a pharmacy technician, or two years of experience in providing nursing or direct patient care service of a medical nature in a county health department, hospital or institution, clinic, convalescent home or other medical setting.
  • College coursework in pharmacy, nursing or other medical related field can substitute at the rate of 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours for the required work experience.
