Seasonal Summer Swim Coach

The St. James is seeking Summer coaches to join its Aquatics team at its flagship location in Springfield, VA in a seasonal position.

Our flagship development in Springfield, Virginia features a premium health club, celebrity chef-inspired restaurant, premium medi-spa, 20,000 sq. ft. active entertainment center, as well as an indoor field house with FIFA-sized field, two NHL-regulation sized ice rinks, 52-meter Olympic competition pool and much, much more. The St. James allows the whole family to pursue their passions in 30 sports.

The Seasonal Summer Coach will support the Aquatics Director at The St. James in the coaching of U18 athletes primarily through STJ’s aquatic summer camp program. A hands-on approach is necessary to effectively manage the quality of experience of our participants and their safety. Applicants should be available on weekday mornings and afternoons. The Coach will have a minimum of 18 coaching hours available each week for summer camps. The Coach will be helping swim camp athletes develop their technique, endurance, and/or general water safety. This position will report directly to the Assistant Swim Director at The St. James. While the position is seasonal, there will be an opportunity to stay on as a part of the St. James Aquatics Coaching Staff if so desired.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform all duties in accordance with Company policies, practices and procedures.
Engage participants in interactive swim practices while maintaining a safe environment.
Provides instruction to coach participants through improved swimming skills and techniques.
Demonstrates positive attitude and actions through a display of courtesy, service, cooperation, hospitality, sensitivity, and professionalism to internal and external customers.
Supports the safety of all members, guests, and employees.
Must be able to attend morning practices and evening practices during the weekdays and a morning practice on weekends (usually no more than 1.5 hours of practice a day)
Must be a good communicator.
Must be comfortable writing workouts for varying levels of adult swimmers.
Must be able to commit to at least one year of coaching with STJ.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicant must have 1 years of experience as a swim instructor.
Must be available on weekday mornings/afternoons.
Must be comfortable teaching in the water and on land.
Must be able to plan their schedule and work within practice times based on need.
Must be able to communicate effectively with parents and athletes.
Knowledgeable of safety training, procedures and best practices used throughout the sports and wellness industry.
