The Shepherd Companies is Hiring a Summer 2024 Accounting Intern Near Norwood, OH

As an intern on the Shared Services Accounting team with The Shepherd Material Science Company, you will have the opportunity to learn about and support the financial operations of two major manufacturing sites and sales offices around the world. You will broaden and deepen your accounting knowledge with exposure to the month end closing process, financial reporting, audit and tax work, the best ERP system in the world (SAP), and other special process improvement projects. 

What you learn and how much you achieve is up to you. Our team is looking for a driven student who is always looking for the “why” behind what they do and will go to any lengths to understand and solve problems. Essential Job functions

  • Participate in monthly close by preparing and making journal entries
  • Complete monthly balance sheet account reconciliations
  • Complete weekly accounts receivable report and assist in collecting past due accounts
  • Opportunity to translate foreign financial statements
  • Assist with tax and compliance workpapers
  • Retrieve documentation for yearend audit 
  • Process and data improvement projects
  • Other work and projects as assigned

Qualifications/Knowledge/Experience:

Required

  • Basic Excel knowledge
  • Basic Outlook knowledge
  • Ability to type accurately
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal skills
  • Ability and desire to work individually and as part of a team
  • Perform work and collaborate with others in the Shepherd organization in a manner consistent with Shepherd Core Values
  • Ability to work in a high energy/fast paced/detail-oriented environment

Desired

  • Accounting and/or Finance major
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office software
  • Familiarity with SAP software
