POSITION TITLE:Senior Manager, Campus Services

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Manager of Campus Services will lead all aspects related to campus facilities and services across Scripps Research's multi-building, multi-site campus. This role requires a proactive, detail-oriented individual with strong leadership skills and a demonstrated ability to enhance the overall campus experience.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of shepherding major campus initiatives, including departmental and broader organizational efforts. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the Scripps community - which includes faculty, scientific and administration staff, graduate students, and visitors - has access to high-quality services.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Vendor Management: Manage strategic relationships with external vendors and service providers, including cleaning companies, security firms, logistics providers, contractors, and maintenance Negotiate contracts, ensure service level agreements are met, and monitor vendor performance.
  • Facilities and Amenities Management: Oversee the continuity and safety of all campus buildings, grounds, and facilities, and continually improve amenities to enhance employee and visitor on-campus .
  • Budget Oversight: Develop and manage both the annual and long-range budgets for campus services, including operating expenses, capital projects, and equipment Monitor expenditures, identify cost-saving opportunities, and ensure financial sustainability.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of campus services staff, including coordination with facilities technicians, custodial staff, security personnel, and administrative support Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment, set performance goals, and provide regular feedback and coaching.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Develop and implement emergency response plans and crisis management procedures to ensure the safety and security of campus occupants during adverse events such as natural disasters, medical emergencies, or security
  • Sustainability Initiatives: Drive sustainability initiatives across campus, including energy conservation, waste reduction, and green building Identify opportunities to reduce the organization's environmental footprint and promote sustainable practices among campus stakeholders, while also ensuring positive ROI.
  • Customer Service: Ensure a high level of customer service to all campus occupants. Address inquiries, concerns, and complaints well within agreed SLAs to enhance the overall campus experience.
  • Details of established essential functions for this position will be addressed/discussed during the interview process.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in facilities management, business administration, supply-chain management or a related field. Advanced degree a plus.
  • 6 years of experience in facilities management or related field. Experience leading campus services teams in an academic and/or life sciences setting preferred.
  • Proven leadership with a track record of building and managing highly collaborative and effective teams, as well as spearheading and shepherding organizational and/or process transformation.
  • Proficiency with building systems and technology solutions, maintenance best practices, and regulatory compliance is required.
  • Strategic mindset coupled with the ability to roll up sleeves and desire to continually improve the status quo.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with proven experience in cultivating cross-collaborative working relationships across an organization and ability to influence at all
  • Adept in ambiguous situations, flexible and comfortable making decisions using available data points that can be limited and/or imperfect.
  • Adaptable to changing priorities while effectively managing multiple commitments, at times on tight deadlines.
  • Track record of building and developing high performing, diverse teams, with a commitment to a culture of collaboration, performance, transparency and integrity.
  • This is an on-campus position requiring 4 days per week working onsite from our La Jolla campus, with flexibility to work 1 day per week remotely from home.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

May include: Stationary position for an extended period of time, traverse campus/facility as needed, operate machinery such as computer, phone, copy machine; exposure to cold or hot temperatures.

COMPENSATION:

The expected hiring range for this position is $114,450 to $137,340/annually, commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
