The Eat Right Philly Nutrition and Wellness Team is looking for someone organized, creative, and passionate about engaging students in physical activity.

We focus on brain blasts, active recess, and other opportunities for school-day physical activity, and all around support for school staff in creating a healthy school environment.

Job Summary :

The Physical Education and Activity Coordinator will work toward and fulfill goals of the Pennsylvania SNAP-Ed grant with a focus on improving quality and quantity of physical education and other physical activity focus areas for K-12 students.

Works collaboratively and communicates regularly with the Director of Health, Safety, and Physical Education to make sure that school-based activities are within the framework of physical education and the District's School Wellness Policy, and that technical assistance and professional development for schools is provided to address their needs and capacity.

Connects frequently with and provides support to teachers, especially physical education, school administrators and school support staff.

Essential Functions :

  • Works with the Office of Nutrition and the Office of Health, Safety and Physical Education to provide support, technical assistance and create professional development opportunities for physical education teachers and other school staff.
  • Works collaboratively with school leadership and various offices to define goals and develop comprehensive plans that focuses on providing efficient physical activities and programs.
  • Supports physical education teachers specifically with sustainable change associated with : increasing the overall quality of physical education class time through moderate / vigorous activity;

targeting the completion of physical education instructional minutes.

Works collaboratively with school administrators and classroom teachers to increase the quality and quantity of kinesthetic learning opportunities that exists concurrently with curriculum standards.

Collaborate with other District offices to integrate and implement Physical Activity focused strategic priorities.

  • Collects data and supports all monitoring and reporting processes for grant and departmental purposes.
  • Collaborates across offices to provide supports and services to teachers to increase healthy eating and wellness behaviors.
  • Promotes the nutrition and school wellness program through various means of communication, print, electronic, and social media.
  • Remains aware of current trends in the school wellness, physical education, and physical activity field.
  • Attends and participates in annual and local meetings, as requested.
  • Assists the Director, Assistant Director, and Program Manager with other duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements :
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Four years of full-time, paid, professional experience in school or afterschool settings

that focus on Health and physical Education K-12, Public health, Exercise Science,

Health Promotion, or any relevant Exercise or Physical Activity related field that occur

in school or afterschool settings.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

Demonstrated knowledge of :

o school wellness and public health principles.

o the methods and procedures used in the assessment, planning, development,

and monitoring of a program for school-age children.

o technical expertise in the use of tools, materials, processes, and applications of

technology, including pertinent software applications.

Demonstrated ability to :

o create and implement high quality physical activity programming.

o the use and capabilities of personal computers and their software applications.

o collaborate with adult learners to promote physical activity, and wellness

behaviors.

o serve as a role model for healthy eating, physical activity, and wellness behaviors

o communicate effectively, both orally and in writing with teachers, administrators,

and community members.

o establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, administrators,

and parents.
