**PURPOSE:**

**The Department of Environmental Studies and Sciences at Santa Clara University, a Jesuit, Catholic university, invites applications for a quarterly adjunct lecturer (non-tenure track) to teach an undergraduate laboratory course in earth systems. The successful candidate will teach this course (ENVS 23 L&L) according to its current schedule (lecture MWF 1:00 pm -2:05 pm, laboratory sections WF 8:30 am-11:15 am) in the Spring quarter of the 2021-22 school year. The quarter is 10 weeks long, with an 11th week set for final examinations. This course must be taught in person.**

**BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:**

**(1) Terminal degree (Ph.D) in earth sciences or any environmental geoscience field. Applicants who are ABD or possess a Masters degree, accompanied by commensurate academic experience in the environmental sciences (5-7 years of college or professional teaching), will be considered.**

**(2) Demonstrated excellence in teaching environmental earth science courses at the college level.**

**(3) Excellent communication skills.**

**PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS *:***

**Demonstration of inclusive pedagogical practices that advance SCU goals of diversity and equity, demonstrated experience teaching and mentoring a diverse population of undergraduate students.**

**SALARY: $15,000 for the two-course lecture laboratory assignment.**

**RESPONSIBILITIES:**

**TEACHING (100%)**

**Teaching duties include but are not limited to:**

**Fulfilling all responsibilities associated with assigned courses, including:**

**a. Teaching a course load of no more than two courses per quarter;**

**b. Conducting and appearing at all assigned class meetings in a timely and prepared manner that demonstrates a command of the discipline and skill in presenting it effectively;**

**c. Assigning and evaluating assignments that align with the course description and course learning outcomes, and providing timely feedback to students;**

**d. Holding regular weekly office hours;**

**e. Submitting student grades that are appropriate, accurate and fair measures of student performance to the Office of the Registrar by the designated deadline;**

**f. Administering numerical and narrative evaluations for all courses;**

**g. Where applicable, teaching from an approved syllabus that covers departmental and Core Curriculum learning outcomes.**

**SERVICE (0%): This position does not require any service duties. The successful candidate may be invited, but not required, to attend department meetings or activities.**
