The Salvation Army is Hiring a Youth coordinator Near Flemington, NJ

Overview

The Youth Ministries Coordinator will build relationships with the children and young adults in Corps programs and the community.

Responsibilities

The duties listed below are the primary duties of this position but are not all the duties that may be required. The Salvation Army reserves the right to change, reduce or expand the duties of this position at any time.

Specifically, the primary duties are :

Program Management

  • Build solid Christian connections with children and teens that point program participants and their families to Jesus Christ.
  • Develop and maintain programs and ministries that enhance the spiritual and emotional development of children and teens.
  • Reinstate, plan, and execute Sunday Children’s Ministry programs, including Junior church and Sunday School.
  • Coordinate teacher rotation for Sunday Children’s Ministry programs.
  • Lead and teach in the weekly after-school program, Troops. Work closely with the Envoys to further develop this program, including securing an after-school care license, increasing the schedule from one day to three days a week, and expanding programs to include arts, sports, and music activities.
  • Coordinate volunteer groups during Troops (and additional after-school activities).
  • Communicate with parents of youth participants prior to programming, for pick-up / drop-off notifications, special announcements / event information, etc.
  • Help with transportation of youth to and from programs, including Sundays.
  • Develop, plan, and execute monthly teen ministry program at the Corps.
  • Work closely with Envoys to develop a weekly teen outreach ministry program at the Corps (Teen Night).
  • Continue to further develop Music & Arts programs on a weekly basis. Coordinate volunteer and teacher schedules, music lessons, timbrels, dance, drums, and other similar programs.
  • Coordinate, plan, and execute Summer Lunch Club annually (6 8-week lunch program during summer break incorporating VBS materials).
  • Recruit and train leaders to serve within the youth ministries programs.
  • Oversee the process of sending campers to Camp Tecumseh annually, including recruitment, processing paperwork utilizing Camp Minder, and providing transportation.
  • Create and maintain appropriate boundaries within all youth ministries programs to promote safety.
  • Promote and attend Divisional and Territorial youth events.
  • Support seasonal activities and special events, including but not limited to Back-to-School, Christmas, and Fundraising efforts.
  • Actively support children within Corps programs by attending, encouraging, and supporting their school and after-school activities.
  • Work closely with the Envoys and DHQ Education Department to obtain After-school Care License, significantly increasing program potential.
  • Adapt to program location and space available for classes while building is under construction.
  • Support the vision and direction of the Corps by prayerfully considering next steps for program development to further meet the needs of the community.
  • Update and maintain youth programming information on the Corps’ social media platforms, ensuring strong engagement with followers.

Administration

  • Maintain good record keeping per Salvation Army policies and procedures.
  • Provide good stewardship by staying within budgets and protecting Corps property and equipment.
  • Follow all Salvation Army KeepSAfe policies to protect children and vulnerable adults.
  • Be an active part of The Salvation Army team in Flemington, including involvement in Corps events as requested, promoting other areas of Corps work, and promoting the mission of The Salvation Army.
  • Keep work and program areas clean and organized.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in Youth Ministry or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of Youth Ministry experience or related experience.
  • Prior supervisory experience.
  • Strong technological proficiency, with specific experience in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Canva, Adobe Express, Lightroom, and other creative media apps.
  • Strong management and organizational skills, with particular attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and relate professionally with other staff, youth, and the community.
  • Above-average verbal and written communication skills.
  • Bilingual (Spanish / English) preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record; must be approved to drive Salvation Army vehicles.
  • Must attend weekly Sunday worship at the Corps.
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Must understand and support the mission of The Salvation Army.
