Job Summary:
The Director of Social Services provides extensive analysis of Command’s mission impact measurements and determines what factors will contribute to or impede the ability to obtain those goals. Research grant opportunities. Writes grants independently and in conjunction with Program Managers. This position also plans, develops, and evaluates all program activities housed in and/or generated from the Nashville Area Command. Coordinates overall operations of the Supportive Housing Program, Direct Assistance (Emergency Services), Family Resource Center, Center of Hope Programs (men, women, and families), Pathway of Hope, and Outreach programs of the Nashville Area Command.
Develops, implements and evaluates program operations and services; ensures work is in compliance with established procedures and policies as well as local, state and federal regulations. Research prepares grant proposals and secures program funding; prepares and monitors program expenditures in compliance with program budget in coordination with the Executive Director of Development;
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of The Salvation Army mission, philosophy, culture, protocol, and organizational structure.
Knowledge of SharePoint and HMIS systems.
Experience in grant proposals and contract processing.
Over 5 years of experience managing a staff of 50 or more.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of effective management and supervision.
Knowledge of effective and efficient methods of organizing and maintaining records.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of health and human services.
Knowledge of the accepted practices and procedures for administering a substance abuse treatment program.
Ability to forecast the future of various programs and adjust to changes in community needs and funding.
Ability to administer a budget and manage expenditures accordingly.
Ability to audit programs to endure compliance with contract, licensure, and Salvation Army standards.
Ability to lead, supervise, coordinate, and evaluate the work of program managers and their subordinates.
Ability to perform short- and long-range planning to enhance social services in the Area Command.
Ability to use all Microsoft Office 365 programs with proficiency as well as demonstrate use of working in internet based or internal databases.
Ability to maintain effective and professional working relationships between staff and professionals in the community.
Ability to discharge the duties and responsibilities consistent with the principles, standards, and the Orders and Regulations of The Salvation Army.
Ability to conduct the affairs of this position responsibly, efficiently, and economically, and to motivate the staff to do likewise.
Ability to conduct all activities of the position with a view to accomplishing The Army’s fundamental purpose of proclaiming Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, which purpose must find expression in both the message proclaimed and the ministry of service performed.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work or a related field with a master’s degree in administration, Economics or Finance preferred,
And
Seven years continuous experience in administrative work with at least three years’ experience in a supervisory role and experience in grantsmanship, conflict resolution, personnel management, public speaking, and experience working with legal documents and procedures including court work,
Or
any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Certifications/Licenses:
Valid State Driver’s License

Ability to meet attendance requirements.
Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
Ability to read and comprehend legal terminology in order to determine compliance.
Ability to perform public speaking.
Ability to calculate figures and analyze complex mathematical computations with accuracy.
Ability to make sound and quick decisions.
Ability to take complex issues and break them down into manageable units.
Ability to conduct and lead group presentations.
Ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull moderately heavy (25-50 lbs.) materials, supplies and equipment.
Ability to work long hours and weekends as needed.
