Description

OVERVIEW:

The Donor Relations Director will have a caseload of up to 150 donors whose giving history is in the $5,000 per annual range. This position plays a key role in the success of the Golden State Division Development fundraising efforts. The Donor Relations Director will report to the Director of Major Giving and be responsible for identifying and cultivating upward mobility donors in the Silicon Valley region.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The DRD establishes, manages, and fulfills a caseload communications plan, including individual fundraising goals and personalized strategies, to effectively steward, educate, cultivate, and solicit gifts from major donors each fiscal year, with an emphasis on gifts of $5,000 and higher
  • Manages a caseload of approximately 150 assigned and qualified major donors as assigned, following the agreed-upon communications plan that is specific to each donor and prospect and working, as appropriate, with donor leadership volunteers to secure visits with those in their peer networks who are assigned
  • Leads in the one-to-one solicitation, gift acknowledgment, and stewardship communication, traveling as necessary, establishing and maintaining excellent donor relations, providing written proposals as needed, and including Army staff and/or volunteer leadership as appropriate
  • Works with prospect research manager at THQ and local staff who are trained to research to develop donor profiles to inform "moves management" strategies and planning conversations
  • Works in close collaboration with local officers, program, finance, and fund-raising staff to present local Army resource development needs that correspond to where donors and prospects reside, while always being responsive to each donor's interests (even if elsewhere) and attentive to fiduciary responsibilities (donor intent with gifts)
  • Communicate and report into the donor database all significant interactions as required
  • Keeps detailed records in all appropriate databases and tracking spreadsheets
  • Ensures excellent customer service is provided to all donors
  • Communicates effectively and regularly with DOD on all issues related to Donor Relations
  • Conducts tours of Salvation Army Facilities with donors and facilitates face-to-face interaction with Division leadership
  • Other related duties as required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree or comparable experience
  • CA driver's license (Required)

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to work with a diverse donor base and workforce
  • Knowledge of The Salvation Army programs and ministry (Preferred)
  • Goal and results-oriented and the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Proficiency and computer literacy in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel
  • Ability to use fundraising databases

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. (usually file boxes)
