The Salvation Army USA Southern Territory is Hiring a Lead Fitness Attendant Near Richmond, VA

The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith based organization, has a job opening for a PART-TIME Lead Fitness Attendant (both morning and evening shift) for the Oasis Fitness Center located on R St. in Richmond, VA. Fitness Center operational hours are before and after Boys & Girls Club programming.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Serves as Lead Fitness Attendant to other Fitness Attendants; monitors day-to-day routine operations of the Fitness Attendants. Maintains accurate and complete records and logs. Provides excellent client services to members participating in activities in fitness and exercise rooms. Ensures the safe use of the facilities by assisting patrons with the equipment and making appropriate recommendations regarding fitness routines; and keeps the sports and recreation areas clean, organized and safe.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the principles and practices of personal fitness and use of exercise equipment. Knowledge of effective and accepted communication and motivation practices. Knowledge and skills to operate a computer. Must be in good physical and mental condition. Must be able to walk, run, stand and lift moderate-to-advanced weight lifting equipment. Ability to share knowledge on the form and function of each piece of equipment and can demonstrate its proper use. Ability to meet the demands of a gymnasium and athletic field program. Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write and communicate the English language. Ability to work and relate well with people. Ability to interact and work with children, parents, and staff in a capacity of leadership, coaching and education. Must be able to interact joyfully and sensitively to people of all ages. Ability to demonstrate the appropriate level of sensitivity to individual needs. Ability to demonstrate appropriate positive motivation and discipline consistently. Ability to be responsive and dependable in meeting member needs. Ability to handle security and crisis situations, calmly and effectively. Ability to seek supervision and guidance regularly. Knowledge of The Salvation Army mission, philosophy, culture, protocol, and organizational structure. Follows and ensures adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education and Experience:
Must be at least 18 years of age; And possess a High School Diploma or G.E.D., and two years' experience leading exercise classes preferably in an exercise facility; Or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Certifications/Licenses:
ACSM Health Fitness Instructor certification, preferred. ACE Exercise Instructor Certification, preferred. Must have or be able to obtain CPR/First Aid/AED certification within first 30 days of employment.
Physical Requirements:
Work requires the ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull moderately heavy (25-50 lbs.) materials, supplies and equipment. Required to grasp objects, push and pull objects, bend, stand, walk, squat or kneel. Moderate to high mobility; duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing and walking on a frequent change basis.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a combination of office and field settings. Frequently required to sit and reach; and must be able to move around the work environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Work will typically be indoors in a heated and air-conditioned office or location, with a mixture of natural, incandescent and fluorescent light with moderate noise levels or be subject to working conditions. Work may require performance of duties where exposure to communicable and infectious diseases are possible. Use of a computer is required; and the ability to communicate using a computer and phone/smart device. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate activities is required.
