The Salvation Army - NJ Division is Hiring a Summer Program Aide Near Red Bank, NJ

Essential Function

The Summer Program Aide supports the Program Director by helping to create a caring and safe summer camp environment for children. The Program Aide assists in facilitating activities to improve the overall care and quality of education. They must be able to communicate, listen, and work well with others in a team environment. Additionally, the Summer Program Aide assists staff in implementing a quality school-age summer program and developing positive relationships with children and their parents. The Summer Program Aide also observes and documents children’s interests and progress and promptly communicates this information to the Program Director.

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties of a Summer Program Aide are not limited to the duties listed below. The Salvation Army reserves the right to change, reduce, or expand the duties of this position at any time. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this role.

  • Assist and engage campers in crafts, outdoor games, educational, faith-based, and recreational activities.
  • Provide supervision to campers on and offsite as needed.
  • Act as a mediator and role model in helping campers manage emotions and learn problem-solving skills.
  • Encourage self-help and good hygiene by modeling these behaviors.
  • Assist in meal distribution during breakfast, lunch, and/or snack.
  • Help to ensure smooth transitions for children as they go through daily activities.
  • Follow all program policies and state regulations.
  • Attend and participate in all required trainings, workshops, and information sessions prior to the start of camp.
  • Other duties within the scope of the role or as assigned by supervisors.

Requirements

  • Infant/Child as well as Adult CPR and First Aid certifications or be willing to obtain such certifications prior to the start of camp.
  • Must undergo and pass a criminal background check and additional screening required by the licensing body.
  • Must be willing to support and lead faith-based activities and programming for youth.
  • Must be energetic and enthusiastic when it comes to working with youth.
  • Must provide health screening that includes satisfactory physical and TB results before the start of camp.
  • Must understand and support the mission of The Salvation Army.

Desired Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Some classroom experience preferred.
  • High energy and the ability to work well with others.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • A foundational understanding of child/youth development.
  • Proven leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Job Types: Full-time, Temporary

Pay: $15.13 - $17.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week

Schedule:

  • Day shift
  • Monday to Friday

License/Certification:

  • CPR/First Aid Certifications (Preferred)

Work Location: In person
