Position Type: Salaried

Pay Range: $41,865.30 - $47,486.40

About this opportunity:

Maintains and strengthens The Salvation Army image in the community and raises awareness of the Area Command activities through various functions; plans, schedules and coordinates projects, activities, and events related to volunteers for the assigned area; recruits, trains, and coordinates the work of volunteers to ensure ample coverage to meet the needs of all areas of the Command; develops, promotes and maintains a wide range of volunteer opportunities; leads all planning and execution of special events occurring within the Command.

Key responsibilities:

  • Participates with the Greenville Area Command leadership team to maintain complete awareness of strategic plans, annual goals, projects, and department schedules in anticipation of providing solutions for volunteer, event, and resource needs.
  • Oversees the recruiting, processing, training, interviewing, and screening of volunteers; oversees and coordinates all volunteer training and instructs volunteers in proper methods.
  • Develops and implements volunteer cultivation, evaluations, and appreciation efforts; solicits supervisors to identify their volunteer need and creates volunteer teams for specific areas. Identifies key volunteer leadership roles and matching strong volunteers accordingly.
  • Serves as liaison to other agencies to obtain/coordinate volunteer and resource assistance; builds and maintains professional working relationships with community agencies in effort to cultivate long-term corporate and government civic partnerships.
  • Prepares and maintains up-to-date database records on all Command volunteers. Reports monthly on status of the volunteer program.
  • Plans, organizes, and executes Salvation Army’s special event activities, including fundraising events. In conjunction with the Director of Development and marketing colleagues, ensures the appropriate promotion for events, directs and monitors event timelines, production schedules, run of show, logistics and staffing. Establishes revenue, mission, and financial goals for special fundraising events.
  • Assists with solicitations of sponsorships for special events and Red Kettle program; maintains department records and provides follow-up acknowledgment letters.
  • Coordinates and leads all Christmas holiday partnerships; oversees recruiting, scheduling, and managing of volunteers for the Red Kettle and Corporate Angel Tree Programs.

What are we looking for in you:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Public Relations, Communications, or a related field AND
  • Three years’ experience recruiting people to perform work on a volunteer basis and/or experience coordinating special events, OR
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Valid State Driver’s License.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language effectively.
  • Ability to perform public speaking.
  • Ability and willingness to conduct all duties in accordance with the ministry of the organization and its Christian principles; conducts all communications and job duties with the highest level of professionalism.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting, and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5 – 10% of work time.

Ability to meet attendance requirements. Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.

Work is performed in a residential environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
