SOCIAL WORKER-BSW
The Salvation Army North Central Illinois Division
Non-Exempt-Full Time
Located in Chicago, IL
Provide casework management coordination to caseworkers within a specific region to implement agency policies and procedures. Special functions may be assigned. Aide caseworkers in development of client casework plans that include expected outcomes which can be measured.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
Case Management and Inter-Agency Responsibilities
  • Within agency policies, programs and procedures, provide direct casework services to clients with a limited range of problems. Some direct service or case related activity may occur off site and could include community agencies.
  • Assess appropriate crisis intervention as indicated.
  • Develop and implement an individual client service plan, regularly review client's progress.
  • Maintain case-related contacts with local resources and agencies to advocate on behalf of clients. Refer clients for services as needed.
  • Process requests for financial assistance to clients.
  • Keep supervisor informed of clients in crisis who may be at-risk, and any situation or incident that may require immediate attention, to prevent harm to anyone by following the agency emergency plan in the Safe From Harm Policy and Procedures Guidelines. In a timely fashion, records such contacts, situations or incidents in special progress notes.
  • Maintain case and statistical record keeping per policy.
  • Abide by the National Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics, including NASW standards for cultural competence in social work practice.
Intra-Agency Responsibilities
  • Fluency in agency policies, procedures, and programs. May contribute ideas and suggestions for change with the knowledge/participation of the immediate supervisor.
  • Monitor administrative aspects of social service delivery. Will work to support and implement a unified social service delivery plan.
  • Assist in overseeing Divisional social service projects, including but not limited to the following: SIMS social services software roll out; Emergency Assistance policy/ procedure instruction; EFSP program and Christmas programs.
  • Provide phone consultation to emergency service workers.
  • Assist in overseeing divisional food pantry program by working with Salvation Army corps staff and volunteers, Emergency Disaster Services and food depositories in the purchase and delivery of food to corps.
  • Assist in collecting service statistics for divisional corps.
  • Attend agency's general and professional training and consultation meetings. Present case management related training to corps emergency assistance workers, i.e. SIMS software, EA policy, Pathway of Hope guidelines, etc.
  • When necessary, may perform certain record keeping and administrative functions such as SIMS data entry, filing case records, etc. Takes initiative in maintaining smooth functioning of office which may include answering phone calls, taking messages, training Help Desk volunteers, etc.
  • May be assigned to support events and services in conjunction with Corps Community Centers, Emergency Disaster Services, other Salvation Army programs and outside agencies.
  • Participate in monthly supervisory meetings with the supervisor to discuss cases. Attends Divisional Social Services activities, as assigned.
  • Has available and should use the resources of the Hope Strong staff and Salvation Army institutions and program administrations for consultation on complex cases, case related questions, and community relations, with approval of supervisor.
  • Trained as Emergency Distaster Services support personnel and may be asked to provide critical incident services on an as-needed basis.
Community Relations
  • Support Hope-Strong by networking with regional team managers and attend team meetings, as assigned.
  • Participate in training, community planning and/or organizing activities, alongside Hope Strong staff, dealing with the social problems of individuals or families and related to regional objectives.
  • Assist agency in assessment of community needs and collaborate in the development of recommended plans for meeting these needs.
Continuing Education
  • Participate in professional seminars, conferences and workshops to increase professional knowledge.
  • Remain abreast of new developments in the social work field and consult with the supervisor and fellow Case Management Department staff to increase service effectiveness.
Other Duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE
  • A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • BSW is preferred, but a major in human services is acceptable.
  • 5 years of experience in related field.
  • Valid Driver's license/MVR clearance.
