Department: Estimating
Reports to: Director of Business Development
Job Summary
The Commercial Roofing Estimator will be responsible for providing detailed and accurate estimates for both new construction and re-roofing for the commercial roof sector of our business. You will need to be able to translate plans and communicate with vendors to facilitate a transition from invitation to bid to estimates over to contracts and finally production.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities
• Servicing existing customer accounts with exceptional customer service
• Maintaining strong record keeping through provided resources, especially as it relates to company developed software.
• Utilize digital takeoff software to gather takeoff data needed to provide accurate estimates.
• Evaluate field acquired data and photographs to establish an accurate re-roof estimate.
• Collaborate with general contractors to ensure cost effective roof systems are utilized while providing value engineering options to maintain budgets.
• Secure project specific pricing from approved distribution vendors and manufacturers
• Compute cost associated factors related to labor, material lead times, equipment, and site logistics
• Finalize all costs associated with a project and provide detailed project specific scope with alternates available at request
• Review GC subcontract scope and verify that it matches what was estimated
• Organize technical data, product information, shop drawings, detail drawings and material samples for approval via submittals process
• Stay up to date with manufacturer installation requirements and material changes and how they affect the market and costs associated
• Attend manufacturer training/education to stay abreast of design requirement changes and code specific requirements related to roofing
Required Skills/Competencies
• Must be able to read and interpret drawings and specifications
• This position requires that the person be a highly organized, self-motivated individual who can work independently
• Must be able to manage multiple tasks and priorities and easily adapt to changing situations
• Will be computer literate, particularly in Microsoft Office Suite Software including Outlook and Teams, Word, Excel and Adobe Basic
• Digital Estimating Software experience Edge, PlanSwift or equivalent
• Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug test
Education and Experience
• High School Diploma, GED or equivalent required
• Higher Education is a plus
• 3-5 years Reading plans and specs including reference documents
• 3-5 years Researching manufacturer specifications and building code requirements
• 3-5 years of commercial roofing and/ or construction drafting or estimating
Physical Requirements
• Must be able to stand, walk and bend for long periods of time
• Must be able to use repetitive hand motion, reach and bend
• Must be able to lift 20 lbs.
• Must be able to tolerate extreme heights
• Must be able to climb ladders
• Must be able to climb roofs of varying pitches and heights
• Must be able to work outdoors in varying and extreme climate conditions
• Must be able to tolerate loud noises
Environmental/Other Requirements
• Ability to travel to local job sites - limited
