LIFEGUARD/ SWIM INSTRUCTOR JOB DESCRIPTION

This position begins June 1st and is open to seasonal and long-term (preferred) employment

JOB KNOWLEDGE, CORE COMPETENCIES AND EXPECTATIONS:

• Must be a capable and proficient swimmer, as well as, lifeguard and CPR certified professional.
• Must be familiar with Learn-to-Swim levels/curriculum or other nationally recognized water safety/swim lesson curriculum.
• Must be self-motivated; costumer/member focused and organized in approach to daily responsibilities.

CERTIFICATIONS & SKILLS REQUIRED:

• Lifeguard (American Red Cross) certification
• Water Safety Instructor (American Red Cross) certification
• CPR/AED Certification (possess either: a current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificate, not exceeding one year in duration, in CPR for the Professional Rescuer issued by the American Red Cross (ARC); or a current CPR certificate, not exceeding one year in duration, issued by American Heart Association)
• Swim instruction/teaching experience with children of all ages (experience teaching toddlers and/or adults is a plus).

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

• Create a fun and socially rewarding environment for members and their guests.
• Enforce pool policies, rules, and regulations in a personable and professional manner.
• Maintain constant surveillance of patrons in the facility; act immediately and appropriately in the event of an emergency. Provide emergency care and treatment as required. Perform appropriate follow-up procedures, including the proper use of equipment in the performance of first aid.
• Provide for the health and safety of swimmers, including ensuring that all teaching and practice areas are free of hazards and that materials and equipment are safe. Maintain cleanliness and safety of pool and equipment.
• Provide lesson plans as appropriate.
• Submit completed report cards, skills sheets and attendance information on time
• Educate students on proper technique and promote swimmer safety.
• Work hours as scheduled which includes beginning and ending lessons on time; remain after class to answer student and/or parent questions as needed, and clean up supplies.
• Present a professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintain a high standard of customer service.
• Attend mandatory meetings and training sessions as scheduled by the Aquatic Manager.
• Complete additional duties as assigned.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $19.00 per hour

Expected hours: 8 – 30 per week

• Lifeguard: 1 year (Preferred)
• Swimming instructor: 1 year (Preferred)

• Lifeguard Certification (Required)

Ability to Relocate:

• New York, NY 10022: Relocate before starting work (Required)
