Union position rate : $21.79 - Shift differential for shifts starting after 3 pm

Position Summary

Under general supervision, performs a variety of tasks involved in the serving of food in a facility; cleans and maintains kitchen utensils, equipment, and work area;

and performs related duties as required. The emphasis of this class is on the serving of food, and the cleaning and maintaining of the kitchen and dining room facilities.

This class is distinguished from the cook classifications, which are responsible for food preparation and cooking.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • One year of experience in food set up, service, and clean up.
  • A combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent to the employment standard listed above and that provides the required knowledge and abilities.
  • Knowledge of standard units of measure and weight for liquid and solid food to portion out required quantities; basic math;

basic practices for safe food storage and prevention of contamination; safe work practices in a kitchen; kitchen and floor cleaning and sanitizing products and proper usage.

  • Ability to : use kitchen serving utensils; operate hot food warmer and storage equipment, and dishwashing equipment; use kitchen and floor cleaners and cleaning implements;
  • read and understand security procedures and mixing instructions for cleaners; write legible requests for repairs or supplies;
  • Will lift food containers weighing up to 35 pounds. Weekend and holiday work is required.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in clear and effective English communication, both verbal and written, coupled with a strong ability to comprehend and execute instructions accurately in various formats.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work conditions include exposure to heat, humidity, steam, cooking odors, refrigerator temperatures and wet floors.
  • Work conditions include : Enclosed areas of preparation where there is heat from steam table and refrigerator motors.
  • Work with sharp knives and very hot food.
