POSITION SUMMARY
To develop and implement programs that provide opportunities for residents to participate in events that maintain optimal levels of mental, physical, and social well-being.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are normal for this position. This list is not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
  • Personally and through recreation of staff members, evaluates the interest and abilities of residents and plans appropriate activities in terms of interest, needs and available personnel.
  • Administers the department’s Interest Survey, MDS, Care Plan and Progress Notes in accordance with applicable codes.
  • Communicates with the Lifestyle staff on a regular basis to inform, exchange ideas, coordinate services and discuss format for individual and group programming. Also shares insight, information and reports responses and/or progress regarding residents.
  • Carries out large, small, and one-to-one events for the purpose of providing any and all of the following: a friendly visitor; sensory stimulation; reality orientation; cognitive stimulation.
  • Evaluates recreational programming on an ongoing basis through surveys and direct interaction with residents and families.
  • Communicates with other departments regarding assistance needed in setup and need for use of common/shared space.
  • Arranges transportation for events.
  • Encourages participation in resident council.
  • Directs volunteer services.
  • Informs residents and staff to changes in scheduled programming in a timely manner when possible.
  • Administers Lifestyle budget including planning, purchasing, and maintaining necessary elements. Educates staff on budgeting and purchasing policies.
  • Assists staff in maintaining attendance records.
  • Recognizes signs and symptoms which signify a change in condition that require nursing intervention and reports these changes to the appropriate channels. Shares resident information with staff on a need-to-know basis.
  • Remains alert for conditions that threaten the safety and well being of staff and residents. Reports hazardous conditions to appropriate channels.
  • Attends training, meetings, and continuing education workshops (as approved) and keeps current trends through reading and conferring with peers.
  • Provides training for staff regarding Lifestyle and volunteer services.
  • Abides by community standards and guidelines.
  • Maintains resident confidentiality when appropriate.
  • Coordinates resident care conferences; attends and reports on result of resident and family conferences; shares pertinent information with staff and volunteers on need-to-know basis.
  • Participates in discharge planning for residents.
  • Helps publish and distribute community newsletter and calendar.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

  • No supervisory responsibilities.

Educational Requirements and Experience:
